Could you describe the steps to do this? Ive never seen this mentioned.

what is accessory?

Press the start stop button without pushing the brake.
Switch into sport/+
Tap throttle (You should be able to hear the valve open if it's quiet enough)
Then start normally.

I think the valves are always open on start up for about 30 seconds. Then they close for about a minute or little less then open again if you select sport right after start.

Just unplug the connector from the valve once it’s open. Then it’ll always stay open

Unless it has a spring closure.

They are closed from start for about 2 mins. They don't open then close

Are you sure? With MPPSK, this thing is obnoxiously loud for the first 30 seconds after start from 'off'. Auto Start/stop does not cause the same level of noise at all. I haven't shoved a borescope down the exhaust to verify, but I'm pretty sure they open for a little bit at start from off, and then close either ~30 seconds later, or when you start driving.

The reason it's so loud on startup is the Turbo Waste Gate opens to get the Catalytic Converter up to operating temperature ASAP.

I don't feel like that can be the full explanation. It really does sound like the exhaust is bypassing the muffler - it's so much quieter, even at WOT, when the muffler isn't being bypassed. I guess I have to do the borescope up the tailpipe test to satisfy my own curiosity.

I did a partial check this AM and here is what I found. Parked car last night in Sport mode but don't know if it matter's. Walked up to car this AM and checked valves, both were open. Started car and put in Sport mode then checked valves and both were closed. After thirty seconds or so Waste Gate closed and both valves were still closed, after about another minute both valves opened. I plan to do the same check later today after car turned off in Comfort mode to see what the starting position of the valves are.

So it was loud right when you walked to rear end and saw valves closed? That noise level is just caused by wastegate opening up? Because it sure sounds like the valves are open on start up on my car.

Yes, loud with valves closed. I did test again last night, if car is shut off in Comfort with valves closed they will remain closed while car is off and there is no change from what I observed doing startup after shutting off car in Sport with valves open.

Also just as an FYI. Someone had posted a procedure alleging it would keep valves open during startup, supposedly if you put car in accessory mode by pushing start button once without foot on brake, then put car in Sport Plus, then push throttle the valves will open and stay that way during startup. I've tried several variations of this and have not been able to get the valves to stay open during startup.

Ah, I guess it just closes right when you start it. As I said I had never actually checked to see if that was the case. Soon after I just opened it and unplugged the actuator to keep it open.

So I guess even the regular 340 exhaust is pretty loud on start up because the MPPSK isn’t much louder than stock in comfort.

Since most of the excess noise is the waste gate... that means that the stock muffler is tuned to quiet the normal noise, which is already 'muffled' by the turbo. So if the wastegate is 100% open at cold start, it's basically sounding like a non-turbo car for that period of time, and the muffler isn't 'sized' for that. The MPPSK muffler is enough to make comfort pretty comfortable, but the complete bypass in sport sounds fun. (I just wish it didn't pop so much since the software update)

Correct, I can confirm a non-MPPSK equipped vehicle sounds maybe 10-15% quieter at start up vs. MPPSK equipped, regardless of driving mode. Most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

What software update? Is it an OTA update or do you need to go in service for it?

Those Dyno numbers are at the engine, and not at the wheels. Typical of the Dyno Dynamics dyno.

I-step update, those are not done OTA, but require a cable to reprogram every control module in the car to bring them up to the latest software version all at once. It was done for my car to address a check engine light/drivetrain malfunction message, they don't do those updates without a cause. At the time they did that, many things changed:
  • Downshift Automatic Rev Matching Changed
  • Navigation interface changed, can't break out of gps centered mode by simply scrolling on touchpad, have to explicitly go to interactive map mode in the left side menu
  • I could no longer press voice command, say 'online search', say a word or two to search google for the business, and then have navigation automatically get the address
  • The 'pops' / backfires / whatever you call it that happen in sport mode with MPPSK got MUCH more common, much more frequent, and much more annoying. Prior to the update, sport mode was louder than normal, but it didn't have any 'pops' on deceleration unless you were in very high RPM and had been near full throttle - basically they only happened when you were driving like an asshole. . After the update, immediately, just about any time you're engine braking in sport mode the exhaust makes non-stop pops until you're under 2k rpm, regardless of whether you're just puttering around town or actually driving hard. So, now, if you're in sport mode, you sound like you're driving like an asshole, even if you're not.
A few other more minor things I forget about now, this all happened in august/september of last year.

This is incredibly accurate

I love the MPPSK but that aspect of it does get really annoying. The popping/burbling is a little excessive and ridiculous at times haha

That’s interesting, I read some posts (probably a little old by now) that new software seemed to have reduced the pops but now I see there is some increase recently. Still at least a month out until I go for mine.

I had mine done yesterday and it certainly pops, bangs and burbles a lot. I love it.
