Tyre clarification

Hi all,

After a bit of clarification regarding tyres. I'm in need of new rears and looking at going to Michelin Pilot Sports, but I don't know which version to go for. So, can anyone tell me the difference between 'Pilot Sport 4' and 'Pilot Sport 4 S' as there is a difference in price, but no discernible difference in performance spec. TIA!!

A lot of tyre sizes they only do either the 4 OR the 4S, so surprised you have the choice of both. The 4S is just slightly more performance oriented, bit more grippier in the dry, slightly harder sidewall so slightly less comfortable, and slightly noisier. According to tyre reviews that is. I suspect the everyday driver wouldn't know the difference.

Thanks for that, just odd them being so similar but have £20 between them. Certainly food for thought

The 4S are better, they are dual compound, the inner 3/4’s are a compound that works better in the wet, the outer 1/4 is a better compound for dry handling. Also, Michelin claim the 4S will last longer.

4 are better than 4s in wet handling. 4s are better tyres overall but will break traction when compared to 4
In the UK when wet and cold. I did a fair bit of research between the 2 and went with 4 given mine was a 335d x drive. If mine was an m car I would have gone with the 4s.
