B58 Oil

Just had a warranty oil change on my 440 with a B58. Document says that they used LL-01 and 0W-30. My understand is that they were supposed to use LL-14 and 0W-20. Verified this with another dealer. I live in the northeast, should I be concerned? If so should I demand a fill and flush ASAP

EDIT: when the technician fills the oil, do they use BMW 1qt containers or bulk oil? Trying to see if there is a way to tell which oil they used

You are correct. I decided to change my oil at 2100 miles to get the starter oil out. I bought an oil change kit from ECS and it came with 0W-20 LL-01 BMW Twin Power oil.

I personally wouldn't worry too much about it. The recommended LL-14 changed from the earlier LL-01 mostly for fuel economy reasons. AFAIK it's still based upon an ACEA A3/B3-4 oil.

I placed a call to BMW. They are stating to use 0W-30 or 0W-20 with LL-01 FE specs

I just had a Maintenance Program oil service last week. Oil used by local dealer was 0W-30. I would not worry about it at all.

This is all very interesting since it should be taking SAE 0W-20 per the manual. Even if you order the kit from ECS, the default oil is 0W-20.

It's just kind of shitty that an actual BMW dealership is not going by the books and putting the right oil in the car.

I think the 0W-20 replaced the 0W-30 for LCI 340i models. Maybe dealers are just using up the old 0W-30?

I'm not taking time out of my day to call up BMWNA. However, I WILL require 0W-20 oil when I get my first maintenance at 10K.

Dealerships often have generic oil change codes. Hopefully they used the proper oil.

Owners manual actually now state 0w-20 or 0w-30 and LL-01 and LL-14 . Sticker on hood says 0w-20

I get it, but if I am already running 0W-20, then I don't want 0W-30 in (but it probably won't make a difference).

I'm just picky with my car.

Just following up on this, one year later. This years oil change, the dealer used LL-17 . Guess they were depleting their inventory of LL-01 last year

Most people say 0w-20 is too thin anyway but I get your point. Dealers or techs usually think we don't care about what goes in the engine.
