Spark plugs on a 428

Just went in for service and per the key read it states my spark plugs are due in 7400 miles which will be around 40k. Is this correct? I thought they were rated for 60k miles?

Don't know official replacement schedule but personally I don't like sparkplugs in a car past 40 - 50k

I see change intervals online from 50-60K. Personally, I am going to perform at 50K.

Spark plugs in newer cars are tipped with Iridium, which makes them exceptionally long-lasting. In BMW's N55 engine, the replacement interval is 60,000 miles and in my Prius, the interval is 120,000 miles!

Totally understand but still not my preference because they heat cycle so long they can get stuck and or even break in the combustion chamber. cheap insurance to replace every 25k.

I changed mine at 60k, no issues and they looked great. Could have kept them in longer.

I replaced mine at 50k.

Simple DIY, wouldn't pay anyone to do it.

How involved is it? Does anything need to be removed ?

What he said. They won't come out after extremely high miles, which is fine if you're flipping the car and not keeping it.

Plugs are cheap compared to getting heads re-tapped.

On fcpeuro would you save the money and go for the Delphi tune-up kit with coils or pay for the genuine BMW? $150 difference...

Not difficult at all. 30 minute job. You just need a special BMW spark plug socket that I got on FCP euro for like $5. I remove the rear most plastic that covers the engine, but that's not necessary per se, just makes it easier. I highly recommend you try it yourself.

Make sure you check the gap. Don't trust the "factory" once they leave the factory how many times have they been shaken around? Even with the little sleeves on them they are sometimes still out of spec.
