840i Coupe - £599 1+47 deal

I just saw this on Pistonheads - it’s for the 2 door coupe, but £599 on a 1 + 47 deal with 8k miles seems pretty good at a time when most deals aren’t great:

https://www.stratstone.com/search/of...dr-auto/69911/

The 8 also comes with a good range of kit as standard

ICON adaptive lights, HK, HUD, Merino leather electric seats...

One of these parked next to us the other day at some Dog show we were visiting. Absolutely loved it. Shame I don't have £600 a month to drop on a car

I 'think' that's only standard on the 50i but could be wrong.

Plenty of great deals on Stratstoneís site.

Plenty bought X3 M40ís and X3Mís from them last year.

Yes the price is generally for a standard car, and you have to take stock cars for the deals, but then none of the stock cars are standard.

That said, they massively reduced the options on mine so it was only about £20 above the advertised £499 deposit and £499 a month.

I've came across a few people who have tried to buy what they've advertised with no luck

Agreed there's an element of bait and switch into what they have as opposed to what they're advertising

Iím not sure itís just that. The base car is that price. Thereís always one or two in stock close to base spec, then after theyíve gone you take whatís left. As less are left, generally the higher spec ones remain, which cost a bit more.

But, you canít expect them to advertise anything other than the base cost as all the cars are different, so what else can they do?

My own experience was they worked really hard for me last year to keep the cost of the options right down, to get as close as possible to the offer price.

And as I said, plenty of others bought at a similar time too.

I can forgive them not updating their M2 offer, mistakes happen. I doubt itís deliberate as it now has been updated to £549 deposit and £549 payment.

They seem to have better publicly available offers than other dealers that Iíve seen. Saves on a lot of haggling. Some of their current deals are better than the U.K. Forces / NHS etc offers right now.

Interesting, test drove a supra today and with 1K deposit the monthlies were higher than that for the 8 series as quoted.

Can't say that's totally fair.

I contacted them about the M2C £499 offer.
Yes they didn't have any base cars left, but they were quick to update me on that fact, totally transparent.

Sure, if I could only just afford the advertised price, I would have been disappointed, but it was an incredible deal and clearly stated whilst stocks last.

BMW control the deal and work the pricing based on a base model and then give the deal to the dealers, they have no choice to advertise as presented and then cut deals for stock/incoming dealer spec'd cars from there.

Why only Stratstone with these offers then?
I would understand if they were widely advertised by different dealers but it doesnít seem to be the case.

Agree on this. They may well have a single car in stock they’re prepared to sell at this price, perhaps as a loss-leader but I don’t buy the whole ‘sorry we’re out of cars on that but we can sell you this one with options’ story.
Why not order more cars at the base offer price in the first place? This at least would be more honest of them.
IMO it’s click bait.

It's not only Stratstone nor BMW that are just guilty of this, even if they clarify that it's only available on base cars and they have none left.

I'd never buy a car from Trade Centre UK, but how many facelift 1 series do they have at £6999 or 16 plate Corsa at £3999...maybe one and that's all they need to make this a sales pitch for years.

Something that an advertising watchdog needs to clean up more than anything.

No one seems interested but I am. Assume the fact it comes in yellow was a big draw?

How did you find the Supra?

I think youíre thinking about this in reverse.

They donít order the cars to support the offer. The offer exists because they have stock cars they canít shift.

And I still donít see what choice they have other than to advertise the base car. Every car they have in stock will be different, what do they do, an advert for each individual car?

Perhaps one thing extra they could put in the small print is that cars may have options that increase the price. Although to be fair, they already say itís for limited stock and once theyíre gone theyíre gone.

Stratstone had the X3/4M offer advertised and linked to on here many dealers didn't, however my local dealer did honour the deal as it was a BMW deal not a Stratstone deal.

No conspiracy, BMW fund/set the deals a dealer can go lower if they want to but the base deal is funded and set by BMW, it's standard practice in retail the manufacturer will provide a base line deal with funding and a reduced ERP but you can go lower as a retailer if you want, doesn't matter whether it's washing machine/car or an Xbox the general rules are the same.

If a retailer doesn't have the stock to sell, then guess what they don't offer the deal...and perhaps offer a different one for a factory order etc...

Yeah the BMW contributions are available to all dealerships - some will advertise and some wonít but if asked all of the UK dealerships can tap into all of the same contributions and finance rates being offered by BMW.

Always giving the example of a base spec car which I donít see the issue with. Limited by availability of stock but nothing underhand going on.

Dealership manager at my local explained this to me previously. All franchised dealerships/groups in the UK have to take a minimum of each model across a year and this varies and is dictated by BMW as part of their franchise terms, BMW decides the spec on the cars and these become ‘stock’ cars essentially. He did tell me that you can go onto the system after the build has been assigned but before the car hits production and change the assigned spec but that by and large nobody bothers.

Over and above that BMW will periodically offer dealerships/groups incentives to take cars that are scheduled to be built/built but with no home - for example take x20 5 series at £XX,XXX. These tend to be the cars that you’ll see 5 of sitting in a row on the grass plastered with stickers pushing a good deal, you’ll also tend to find that these cars will be more of a basic spec as they’re essentially being built to keep an assembly line moving.

The options didn't present a profit claw back to Stratstone's, they were added at discounted rate so I'm not sure why anyone would think something underhanded is going on here. It's hardly in the same league as Ryanair's £9.99 seat.

.....but maybe more accurately they should have said 20% discount. Anyway, who would actually buy a base spec M2?

As for those saying this deal was all BMW UK, it wasn't. Specialist cars would only discount £5k, Wollaston £8k. Stratstone were at £11.3k for an optioned car. Even TRL wouldn't match and his prices were somewhere around £8.5k.
