Hey guys here's a good read on brakes...not saying it's correct or validating the article but thought I would share.

M sport rotors:
Front: 340mm rotors, 4-piston Brembo caliper painted blue
Rear: 345mm rotors, 2-piston Brembo caliper painted blue

M performance rotors:
Front: 370mm rotors, 4-piston Brembo caliper (yellow/gold, orange, or red color)
Rear: 345mm rotors, 2-piston Brembo caliper (yellow/gold, orange, or red color)

The pads are also different.

Your link is only accurate where your car is concerned (F30 328i).

For those with a 335/340/435/440 after MY2013 here are the specs:

https://www.turnermotorsport.com/e/t...ke-differences

M Sport and M Performance rotor sizes are the same front and rear, and the M Sport pads appear to be preferred (even with their high amount of dust).

Can we confirm that the Calipers are the same (except for color) ?

Thx buddy. I would love the blue M-sport setup on my f31. Purely for aesthetics as the stock brakes are pretty amazing for my needs (no track days)

How are they for daily driving? Too bitey?

Honestly I have the m performance set-up and performance wise I didn't notice much difference. It's been mainly aesthetics.

One thing I did notice though is they don't get neatly as hot as the old ones.

Those blue M-Performance brakes bit pretty well but the amount of dust they made, heck sometimes it made my rims turn matte grey.

I have not noticed any excessive brake dust from my M Sport brakes. Of course I cannot compare to the BMW basic ones, but based on experience.

There are (2) versions of the Blue Brembo calipers:

4 Piston Fronts for 340mm Rotors - have '340' cast into backside of caliper
2 Piston Rears for 345mm Rotors

4 Piston Fronts for 370/380mm Rotors - have '370/380' cast into backside of caliper
2 Piston Rears for 345mm Rotors

The latter are found on F8x cars - I have the blue brembos with 370mm front/345mm rear on my 435 that came from an M4

Even that link is outdated. 330i MSport get the same brakes as the base 340i. Unfinished grey 4 pots front and sliding rear.

I feel like all of this is incorrect lol. The issue with calling anything "Msport brakes" is they don't come on all cars with the MSport package/the MSport package isn't always required to get the blue brakes.

I've been doing a lot of research on this lately as I'm searching for a budget friendly BBK, and this is what I have found, confirmed with part numbers.

As far as F3x cars go:

Base -35i/-40i, MSport -28i/-30i
Front: Grey 4-Piston Calipers (PN: 34116850931/34116850932)
340mm Rotors (PN: 34116792223)

Rear: Grey 1-Piston Calipers (PN: 34216850973/34216850974)
330mm Rotors (PN: 34216864899)

Track Handling Package -28i/-30i/-35i/-40i
Front: Blue 4-Piston Calipers (PN: 34116875649/34116875650)
370mm Rotors (PN: 34106797606)

Rear: Blue 2-Piston Calipers (PN: 34216799461/34216799462)
345mm Rotors (PN: 34206797607)

MPerformance Brakes
Front: Red/Orange/Yellow 4-Piston Calipers (PN: 34106875651/34106875652/34106875653/34106875654/34106875655/34106875656)
370mm Rotors (PN: 34106797603)

Rears: Red/Orange/Yellow 2-Piston Calipers (PN: 34206855481/34206855482/34206855483/34206855484/34206855485/34206855486)
345mm Rotors (PN: 34206797600)

The only cars that came with 340mm front brakes with blue calipers are the F2x 2-series models. Edit: And F31/F33/F34.

Also, the MPerformance rotors appear to be the same as the Track Handling Package rotors, except they are drilled and slotted. They are listed as an optional upgrade for the standard blue brakes.

And yes, the 4-piston calipers for 340mm brakes are different than the calipers for 370mm brakes. Confirmed by roll_the_dice

Very nice write up. That's why the upgrade from brakes and included with Track Handling Package to M Performance is not technically an upgrade. There was an older thread discussing the same topic.

330mm Rotors (PN: 34216864899)
Not all M-sport package -28i cars came with grey 4-piston fronts. Some had single piston floating calipers. The change happened for MY2015 IIRC, but F31s and F34s never received the 4-piston grey caliper with M-sport.

-28i/-30i cars came/still come with the 340mm front rotors/blue calipers with this package. You're not getting the 370mm rotor/calipers with a -28i/-30i car from the factory. You can see this on RealOEM.

M-Perf rotors are slotted and dimpled, not drilled. They're not susceptible to the cracking between holes like drilled rotors are this way.

The main body of the 340/370mm caliper is the same (so same brake pads and retaining/rattle hardware), but the mounting ears are different to accommodate the different diameter rotors.

Well, this thread “certainly” cleared the differences.

I would be lost reading through this thread if I didn’t know.

Not sure about the MY change, but I have seen F31s with the 4piston brakes. Unless you're saying they were all done aftermarket, but I don't think that's the case.

Yeah, that's why they're different. When people ask if they're the same, the assumption is they want to just upgrade to bigger rotors and get the same look. But without some sort of adapter it won't work.

I had a basic level of awareness up until a few weeks ago when i started seriously looking, and the main thing I've gathered is there are so many unique combinations for no reason that I feel like BMW was just throwing money out the window. All I know is I want 370mm fronts/345mm rears without paying $1500 lol.

Are the grey unpainted calipers 4 piston as well? Turner motorsports have them listed as single piston.

I've got the blue M-sport brakes and really tired of the brake dust from these OEM pads...definitely replacing /w ceramic pads when these wear out within a few months. Makes my black wheels look brown. LA traffic..

Blue and M-Perf sure, but not the grey, unpainted ones. Look on RealOEM, not even an option for US models.

Yes. The grey brembo calipers are 4-piston. That is the same caliper as the blue 340mm rotor caliper, just unpainted.

Maybe you're getting a floating caliper and fixed caliper confused. Look them up, and you'll realize you could never mistake one for the other.

I had M Performance brake kit on my 13 335i. BMW calls the rotors, "Drilled (dimpled) and grooved brake discs."

I have the blue-calipers and the discs are humongous! 370mm's... can't believe how big they are... needless to say... stops on a dime with 9cents left over...
