Small ding, paintless dent removal costs
Hi all.
Not long since owning it, I stupidly (in the wind) dinged the other halfs door wide open into mine. Suffice to say I was fuming at myself but i have started breathing again and wanted to get it sorted. It is a small little ding, not too deep and probably only a cm or 2 wide at most with paint intact. I could live with it, but dont want to! I was thinking would be about 50 quid get it taken out with a pdr. Had 2 quotes so far one at 150 approx and the other I think nearer the 200 mark! I'm a bit shocked and cant help but wandering if these quotes are higher because it's for a bmw and people think they can charge more? I hate to think that way but seen so many pics online of quite major panel damage costing around this amount on other cars. I have attached a pic to see peoples thoughts. You can barely see it but it's below the passenger door handle. Is 150 to 200 a fair price for this or should I keep shopping around. I'm all for paying a fair amount for a fair job and realise that start up costs/ equipment costs etc need to be covered but just dont want to pay crazy over the odds. Sounds a bit steep but I'm assuming they'll need to remove the door card and maybe other things so it could be to cover labour. You must have given it a good old whack, someone did the same to my car last year and it never left mark!

As was said on a recent PDR thread, they don’t remove door cards. They drop a window, put a plate in to protect the glass and work from there.
You’ll only get a £50 job with mates rates. Do you think someone is going to come to you to work for an hour for £50? That will basically cover their call out charge. Then it depends on the dent. Expect £100 to 200. Either way, cheaper than a respray and 95% as effective. Last edited by Pentland; 10-24-2020 at 07:12 AM.. |

I was quoted £120 for a dent a bit bigger than that in the middle of the front passenger door.
My wife's car had a heavy dent in the passenger door, scratched down to the metal. A proper repair and respray on that (solid white) came to £200. |

Have used Chips Away twice for PDR in the last year and a bit, on the wife’s car (one a shopping trolley ding due to an old bat letting it go and not paying attention (sadly, paying for it to be fixed ourselves was the best (and only real) option!)), the second (two weeks ago) appeared to be a door end ding, similar to your photo). Both fixed without a trace, and both times cost only £60 each. Would assume they have the same rate nationally??

Update. I emailed back to explain how I felt it was dear in comparison to other people getting major panel damage fixed for a similar price. To be fair to them they replied and explained their expenses for callout ( I'd googled for a local company and this is one of those franchises that appear local but not). They offered to do it for 85 plus VAT If I take it down ( approx 30 miles away). Seems fair enough but will see if I can similarly drive somewhere more local.

Thankfully for me, chips away is 2mins “down the road”, so that £60 cost is for a delivered car for fix, but £60 certainly a great price for a PDR in my view.

Chips away were the ones that quoted nearer the 200 mark! Like everyone saying such a huge variation. I highly doubt even if i drove to my local one theyd drop it to 60. You are lucky with that set up. Hopefully this is the last time il need lol park so far from other cars in car parks I get my steps in for sure !

We pay £50+ vat per panel at work but the guy comes in once or twice a week and does all of the cars for sale, some days two cars some days six or Severn depending on the stock levels

£40 for PDR near me in Salford, his work is fantastic. Some absolutely horrific dents on creases fixed, £40 onsite, £60 call out within 3 miles. £150 ask for a reach around while they're porking you anyway.

This is great thanks for this. Might give him a go as I'm looking for a manc based PDR. The missus dented my passenger door on a pillar without looking and it's starting to annoy me now when I catch it in the light
