Looking For BMW M Sport Steering Wheel

Hi Guys,

I picked up my car with the following steeringwheel (top) and am looking to source as cheaply as possible the M sport steering wheel (Below)

Would any of you kind folk in the UK happen to be selling one?

Cheers

If you're looking for the whole thing including airbag and controls, eBay would be your best bet. Most of the time people are selling just the wheel.

This - your stuff won't transfer and I'm also not 100% sure the new controls would work properly.

I'm not sure about the controls either, and the euro ones are different in any case versus US. UK has Lim whereas US has Set. Also I would doubt anyone here would have a single stage airbag either.

I was reading a few other forums including old posts from this website, and people have done it, only the flappy paddles have needed coding to be used properly.

Perhaps I have rushed with the photos but Ideally it would be a UK BMW steering wheel and swap it with a UK M sport steering wheel

Im a little put off now as a lot of others are saying its an easy plug and play job?

I'm not sure about the controls but I'll assume it works since I've seen people with US cars put in steering wheels with the UK controls. However I'm not sure about the airbag scenario though. Europe has single stage airbags where North America has dual stage. Those who import a single stage airbag to use here have to do additional coding. Can the reverse work as well? I don't see why not, but I'm not an expert in that area. They being said, even if it all works as a simple plug and play, it doesn't change the fact that most people on the forums sell just the wheel barebones without anything else. There are the rare occasions where someone is selling the whole thing, but generally speaking it's usually just the wheel. This is why I suggested eBay. I got my wheel from eBay in fact, from a seller based in Latvia.

What you need for a direct swap is an F20 M Performance wheel not the F30.

Your current airbag and switchgear would be a direct swap as well.

Here’s one, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-...YAAOSw6n5XvZwo

It's definitely the cheaper option, but the F30 one is soooooo much better.

While one might be able to ship an airbag domestically without detection (Would not recommend though), I would remind you that airbags have explosive material inside. As thus, technically need to be shipped as hazardous material and have a special box to contain the force of an airbag going off during shipping.

You try to go through International Customs and they inspect to find this wasn’t shipped properly, expect to find yourself in a shitload of trouble as you have now endangered the Customs Official’s life.

I also remind everyone of the abundance of counterfeit airbags that look so much like real ones, ECS and other Forum Sponsors have been forced to stop selling Airbags. eBay will not even allow New BMW Airbags to be listed on site any longer.

As I’ve said before, between Takata and Counterfeits, the ONLY Airbag I would ever buy not from a Dealer would be a LONG TIME BIMMERPOST member with plenty of activity and reputation who’s selling out of their personal car that can be traced through dated posts.

Otherwise, I’ll buy from a Dealer regardless of price. Safety too important.

How would one identify a counterfeit airbag exactly?

Unfortunately, if it was that easy, all the former suppliers of new airbags would continue to sell them.

Here’s some caught:

https://www.justice.gov/usao-wdmo/pr...-airbag-scheme

http://www.thenorthernlight.com/2014...rfeit-airbags/

And here’s another story from January 2018.
https://www.thecounterfeitreport.com...us-Models.html

And it’s been going on for years and getting worse. Here’s a Government Warning from 2012

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=756993

FWIW, I have had issues with the last 5 of 5 supposed BMW OEM Parts over the last 30 days, some supposedly new, totalling over $3k right now. I know the PayPal Dispute Agents almost personally after hours and hours on the phone with them.

It’s getting worse and worse with all brand name items imo, fwiw.

Everything I purchased last 15% discount day had issues, so not like I can just buy another.

EDIT: More info

Even Alibaba is cracking down. They pulled 22,000 listings from 700 Suppliers in October 2017 alone.

2 sets of M6 Paddle Shifters, CF Mirror Caps, a set of Wheels and a defective Control module.

That does not include the 3 Dell Switches which had issues.

Really? That's interesting. How can you tell they're not genuine?

Sloppy labels (some with no labels) and close attention to details.

In one case, the wire had plastic covering on the wiring instead of cloth.

Also lack of info in molded plastic and stamp in wheels.

Various things on various parts.

Which of these are counterfeit?

1). https://www.ebay.com/itm/Steering-Wh...S/222775457218

2). https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-BMW-5-6...S/172932361304

Hi I have a question if you can help me. I am looking to change my oem wheel (with paddle shifter) to m-sport wheel which doesn't come with paddle shifter. I have been told the m-sport wheel came from manual car. Can I still use the m-sport wheel even though my car is automatic? I guess if I want to use my paddle shifter with the m-sport wheel, then will have to retrofit as discussed in other threads. Many thanks.

You can certainly use the wheel providing you also have the correct airbag.

To the best of my knowledge though you cannot reftrofit paddles to a wheel that didn’t come with paddles. From memory there are cut outs in the rear of the wheel where the paddles are screwed into.

Thanks. When you say correct airbag, do you mean it must be dual vs. single stage for US vs. other countries?
