Trunk open

This has happened to me several times. I have come out to my car after work and noticed the trunk was open. I don't know how long it was open and nothing was missing. Has anyone had this happen to them? I usually leave my key fob on my desk. I may have had it in my pocket and perhaps pressed the trunk open button by mistake. The car is about 25 feet from my desk. As I say this has happened 3-4 times. No rhyme or reason.

The same has happened to me, but my keyfob is always in my pocket although I am more than 25 feet away in a garage so I basically figure it must be happening while I am walking to or from it. Trying to get it to face with the buttons on the outside of my pocket seemed to help.....

If you happened to walk behind your ride and got your foot in-and-out quickly under the rear bumper, the trunk will automatically open after a second or two. Perhaps that is the culprit.

Do you wear skinny jeans and have your fob in your pocket?
I had this happen 1 time (so far), but I know it was from my pants being a little tight. I ordered some Made in USA Dockers online and discovered that they were a lot tighter than I would normally wear. I hopped up on a bar stool and 10 minutes later a lady came in my store saying "Someone left their trunk open across the street" .. Needless to say it was me.. I sent my wife out to "move" the car.. since it's her car anyway..

Different car, but on our X3 which has comfort access, when we use the auto close button on the trunk it sometimes pops back open! a few times it has happened to my wife and myself, come out of the store and see our trunk wide open! I drove it down the street, parked it, opened and closed it, walked 20 feet away just to see it open again!

At first I thought maybe something was tripping the sensor, but the trunk fully closes and you hear it lock, then it opens 5-10 seconds later! that isn't right! maybe there is a similar issue with the 3 series. going to ask service department when we bring it in on saturday.

Trunk Open Randomly

Is somebody else experiencing this? My trunk opened twice in one week, fortunately that happened in my garage.

This has happened 3 times for me. I assumed it was the key fob in my pocket so I ordered a key cover. Has not happened since but it's only been a few weeks and I am not 100% sure why it happened before.

You people posting about this problem: it matters whether you have Comfort Access or not. So it would be helpful if you provided that information when posting.

I do have comfort access. But the times that this has happened I was nowhere near the car. I was coming out of my office a few weeks ago (several hundred feet from the car) and noticed the trunk was open and it had been drizzling outside. The trunk was not wet though so I assumed it had not been opened very long.

If my fob in my pocket did open the trunk it happened when I was in the lobby, however I normally have to be 20 feet from the car for me to arm it. I have a cover on the fob now so time will tell.

Could it be that the people you keep putting in your trunks keep using the emergency release and escaping?
