Reliability of 2014 BMW 328xi

Hi All,

This is my first post. I recently purchased a 2014 BMW 328xi Luxury Line trim with 39k mileage. I wanted to get thoughts from same owners on their input regarding the reliability of the car? Thanks!

From a second person point of view....friend drive a 2015 328xi sportline....I give you a short background about my friend....he literally don't anything about cars. He drives 20- 24k miles a year but he does a good job of being punctual with the maintenance of the car only done at the dealership. The car now have 95k miles on it....thats pretty good right.

Btw this is a stock car...no mods. So I don't about if your going to mod

The only problem worth noting is the engine timing chain, which they just extended the warranty on to 7 years/70k miles. That makes you good for at least 3 years/31k miles.

We had a diesel so slightly different but the rear diff blew as did the transfer case at 60k. The car is now gone replaced with a gasoline version that has 20k miles on it with warranty and maintenance til 100k.

Isn't the 2014 model not on the timing chain problem list?

Is there literature or anything that confirms the warranty extention officially?

I don’t plan on doing any mods at all. Also I’m mostly going to be driving this as a “pleasure car” probably no more than 7k Miles a year, so I was really hoping I won’t be facing any major issues at least for the next 5-6 years. I kept hearing about the timing chain problem but been getting mixed responses as well.

Too bad they're four times the price of other virtually identical LEDs that work just as well. For instance:

US owners have been receiving confirmation letters for the last month or more. I don't know if BMW Canada is there yet.

When you guys say "reflector style headlights" are you referring to the base level headlights? I believe that is what I have... been thinking about upgrading bulbs at least but wasnt sure of my options...

I have been very happy with my 2014 328ix. 125,000 km and not a single problem with it! They had fixed the timing chain issues with the 2014 model year.

I dont believe it is correct to assume all 2014 model N20/N26 motors have the revised timing chain and associated parts.

I have a 2014 and from previous research... am under the impression that I do NOT have the updated components.

Can someone please confirm.

I've had my '14 for 3 years, and have 41k miles. I've had an issue with the turbo waste gate actuator and the thermostat, and the 2 front door lock actuators had to be replaced, all covered under warranty. I've been good otherwise. This isn't any different, from a reliability standpoint, than any of my prior new cars in the past 20 years: Lexus, Acura, Mazda, Honda or Saturn.

If that was the case I would not have received the extended warranty letter from BMWNA for my '15.

I bought mine literally 3 weeks ago that's probably why I haven't received anything from the mail yet. I did message BMW NA about it to confirm with my VIN.

Just enjoy the car and move on; life's too short to worry about reliability, especially since you already bought it! (in a nice way of course) Just enjoy it

Lol agreed! I do enjoy the car so far no complaints other than getting only 25mpg due to minnesota winter weather and short commute. Seems like the only thing i have to worry about mostly would be the timing chain and if the extended warranty is confirmed then im comfortable with that.
