N20/N26 Whistling Noise at 3500 RPM

Hey folks-

Searched the internet with very little luck trying to self diagnose the sound my car 2014 328i x drive 8ZF 72k miles (N26) was making between 2700 and 4000 RPM. I would describe it as a whistle although not that high pitched it has become louder in the last 1k miles or so.

I posted a youtube video here :>> https://youtu.be/7xLiUKMBmqE

The service lead claimed that the noise was normal, but I said i was willing to pay the $200 for them to take it in the back and check things out to confirm. I just got a call from the dealer and they are claiming the sound is loose timing chain. I could have been out of luck with a broken engine in 2 more months when the warranty was out.

TLDR: If your car is making this sound - bring it into the dealer and have them check it out -- save your engine!
