You could leave the strut brace in place, but it is a little roomier to get at the back if you take it off. I just tightened those bolts until it was tight.

You will need an assistant to get the fly wheel locked in place, and an inspection mirror to figure out when you hit TDC. The instructions are pretty good, no huge surprises or anything

Original pump @ 120k. There's some slight visible scoring on the roller, and the crank as well. Some wear but nothing substantial, No indications that the pump was nearing failure or anything. It's difficult to photograph, but it looks pretty good. I like my new pump better, but this one could have broke the 200k mark for sure

Probably was the intake cleaning, but gas mileage seems to be up too! Last tank was 41.3 mpg with sitting in traffic 3+ hrs

That pump looks great. You've been using quality fuel for sure. It seems to confirm the fuel contamination theory vs. just wear and tear. I agree it would have lasted more. Thank you for the pics!
I have a 20k mile one for testing, with similar wear patterns, just less polishing of sidewalls.

I was sent the fuel pump warranty extension letter, like everyone else, 2-3 years ago. But today I just received another letter saying specifically that the fuel injectors would be covered for 10 years or 120,000 miles. I assume this extends, and does not simply supercede the prior fuel pump protection letter.

Looks like with the GM, FCA, and other diesel fuel pump class actions in the news this fall, BMW thought it would be a good customer retention strategy to make it clear that they're at least extending the coverage. My wife's Mercedes, and my 328d, both have the Bosch 0445010553 or CP4.1 pump that can self destruct with ultra low sulfer diesel, especially if water gets into the fuel. She has yet to be told anything by Mercedes.

We're both using DieselKleen which has an extra lubricant for the fuel pump, so maybe that will save us $10-15k each.

The pump generally destroys the fuel injectors when it goes, but I have not received a separate letter covering them, not sure if they had any issues on their own. I'm past 120k at this point, But still on original injectors.

Is this only sent to original owners or even 2nd or 3rd owners? We just bought a 328xd wagon with 102k miles from a BMW dealership and would sure like to know if this would be covered. We purchased an aftermarket drive train warranty which includes the HPFP, but I was planning on dropping it after I could get some miles on the car on my own. Now I am starting to thing it would be better to just hold on to it.

I have been working on a solution to the CP4.1 issue and finally the prototype parts are here! Everything is based on on the same concept as the "disaster prevention kits" for the CP4.2. I will be installing into my ride this weekend. I also have a 2nd set of parts that I would like to have someone test out in their rig. Any volunteers?

If testing is successful, I plan on selling these as kits for around $200.

One of those 2micron kits would work just fine. I am planning on using a derale filter mount with a Cim-Tek CIM300BHA01 1 micron filter. Only thing I still need to source for that is a 1-12 to 1-12 nipple to mount the filter.

Interesting to see this letter. I was one of the unfortunate people to have a hpfp failure at 42,000 kms! My car is now at 82k with no further issues, however, I haven't received any recalls/waranty extensions about the fuel system.

I'm curious... Anyone in Canada receive this letter or anything similar regarding the fuel system?

Here's my experience with this problem, and BMW's response.
1st recall - EGR cooler - received recall letter, a week later my coolant light goes on, notice burning smell occasionally. Brought into dealer ASAP. Dealer examined car, said nothing wrong "it is normal for newer cars to lose antifreeze", which is of course BS. Had them write it on work order. Approx 6 months later I start have CEL light, hesitation, died before could get in dealer, got towed. Dealer cleaned intake, then determined egr cooler needed replacement. Expected warranty, when I picked up car $1200. Questioned it, they said the cooler was leaking, but not the part under recall??? Drove another 6 months, same thing starts happening, cel, died, towed. Dealer replaced one of the sensors, said under warranty. Drove a week, died again, towed again, replaced more sensors, charged me. Drove a couple days, died again, towed again. This time they said Catalytic convertor - $2800. I said that happened due to coolant leak from EGR. They said no. I went to BMW NA. After 2 months of arguing they agreed to do catalytic for $1400 because I had paid for cooler - should have been free with a refund. Drove a yearish. Got recall letter for driveshaft/trans case. Within a week started having vibration. Repeatedly called and emailed dealer, no answer. Car died in traffic, couldn't get off road. Towed again. Dealer tried to give me hard time that "we never have to replace the transfer case, yours is grenaded" I replied should've answered me when I contacted you. Drove another 6 months, car died in 3 lanes of heavy traffic, no warning. Whole family in car, lucky not hit. Towed again. HP fuel pump failure, $10-$15k repair. I refused, called BMW. At first they said "oh yes, there's a recall, IDK why you didn't get letter", will call back. No return call or email for 2 weeks of me calling. Finally demanded to speak to case managers supervisor. She said there is a recall, covering cars made from 6/2013 to 11/2013. My car was made 9/2013. But my car is not part of the recall. Adamantly refused to include my car, nor give a reason why, other than my VIN isn't part of it.
Car is a 2014 328d xdrive. I bought the car with 30,000 miles on it, 130,000 now. I brought to dealer for every single service, even oil changes. I bought Diesel at a national chain, that has very high diesel volume turnover. Every time the car was in the dealer, there was something else. Fuel line, front lower arms, etc. Currently sitting in my driveway. I will be starting to do this pump myself soon. Life long mechanic, my neighbor is a diesel mechanic with his own business and has his own collection of VW and Mercedes diesels. I've had GM diesel trucks for 25 years, and until the duramax they were underpowered and tended to blow trannys, but I've never had the problems this car has had.

Hey, sounds like my 2014 EGR cooler leak, both Nox sensors twice, then three transfer cases until I applied the 'loctite' / rubber guibo fix. That was all before 80k or 90k miles.

It's been a handful... I figured HPFP was next, so I changed it proactively around 100k. Coming up on 200k now, it's been pretty solid since 80k. Had to replace all the front arms and the rear ball joints, but with my current mileage it's not totally unexpected.
