Used TPMS sensors help

If I'm purchasing used TPMS sensors and assuming they are working and are the correct model to work with my car.. are there any other things I need to be aware of? Or is it just a simple insert, program iDrive, and all good?

Since the TPMS sensors have a battery, I don't know if I'd go used. You never know how much life is left in the battery. I'd go with new ones knowing there will be several years of no worries.

From what I've read, BMW changed the sensors sometime around the 2014 model year and you have to be very careful to make sure you have sensors which are compatible with your model year of car. A pre-2014 sensor won't work with a post-2014 car and vice versa. Others here probably know the specifics.

I didn't know about them having battery life thanks for pointing that out! How long are they supposed to last if bought new?

You can get new ones cheaper from companies that make them for the BMW label. TPMS dot com sent me VDO sensors based on my 2015 VIN and they were only about $50 each new!

have used them twice now and have worked great for both my e90 and now my f30. just make sure to get them your last 7 of VIN so they can get the proper ones.

I asked here not long ago after experiencing a really odd, random TPMS issue. I believe the consensus was around five years.

This the the first car I've owned with TPMS sensors actually in the wheel and not one of the more simple systems which measures tire rotation, so I'm in uncharted territory with my own car.

With anything battery powered I always think long term and like to start with a device with the maximum possible battery life.

Yeah I might just get a new set instead of going used just to ensure I get the maximum possible battery life. TireRack has a set of 4 for $140 whenever I input my specific car.. has anyone had a good experience with the TireRack ones? Is there a difference with the OEM and TireRack TPMS?

I'm running a set of TPMS sensors from Tire Rack which came with my winter wheel/tire setup and they work just like OEM. I just had to do the re-set procedure.

Good to hear they're working like OEM! I'll pull the trigger on them when the new wheels come in
