Transmission or wheel bearing
Hi guys,
I have a 2016 435xi with 18k miles. I’ve had it for about three months now with no issues for the first 2 1/2 months. About 2 weeks ago while accelerating my car started grinding around 25-40mph. And it’s getting progressively worse. I started to do my own test on the car and grinding only happens from 25-40mph, at all RPMs and on all gears. It sounds like the grinding is coming from the passenger side of the car. It’s been in 1 accident two years ago, The person before me hit another vehicle, damage was reported on drivers front bumper. Everything was repaired. There’s no problems accelerating or no problems with shifting. Also Everything on the vehicle is stock. Also there is a slight vibration in the steering wheel. I brought my car into the dealer for a check and told them what I thought was tire roar coming from the back end of my car. Service rep told me it was a bad wheel bearing and a slightly bent rim. I have not had any accidents, however I have fallen into a few potholes and my guess is one of them bent my rim and slowly took out the bearing.
I would not describe the noise I hear as 'grinding' as you say. Is it possible your wheel is bent because of this accident? A bent wheel and a shot wheel bearing usually go hand in hand. Last edited by kerny7678; 03-19-2019 at 12:00 PM.. |
