I'm pretty sure this isn't my issue but maybe someone here is experiencing the same thing. When I close my '12 28i driver door it doesn't sound solid, it sounds like something is vibrating. The top of my outside b pillar doesn't look as flush in the rubber as the other pillars but the screws that hold it in are tight.
Anyone else have this issue or know what could cause it?

Just wanted to add some input as well
My f30 is year old now and started developing same noises few months back Found this thread and decided to give it a go. Could not source any Teflon tape in local stores sadly but really wanted to try if it work. Bought some T-rex black tape form B&Q yesterday. Its a cloth tape with double amount of glue. Good quality tape and it black so thought it should be good for now until I order some Teflon online. Applied yesterday and voila The car is a pleasure now. Driving in and out of a driveway is quiet. Car feels new again and much more solid. Tape sticked like there is no tomorrow and can't be noticed with doors shut. If doors open I see it, but probably noone else would notice it. Very happy with the result and will actually leave it there, as dont feel any need for Teflon now. If anyone in UK would like to try it, there is a nice tape in B&Q. Thanks for all the input and nice write up. |

I finally brought the car in to address the service bulletin for this. They replaced the rubber on all four doors and it's silent again....well the creaking doors are silent and I can now concentrate on the wind noise and other sounds ?.
The initial rubber started creaking after two years...if/when these start up, ill have them replaced again. You can definitely tell the difference in the feel of the new vs old seals. |

Yup, I had the dealer install their teflon tape shortly after getting this car and all the creaking went away. Serious design flaw if you ask me. Oddly my 320 didnt have this

If my memory serves me correctly, silicone does not attack rubber. It is typically the propellants in the aerosol can that attack the rubber. If you look at a can of silicone it is mostly propellant.
When I was younger my father owned a company that re-built disc brake calipers. To put the units back together the rubber parts were sprayed with silicone. They would swell up like a marshmallow. Had his chemical supplier bring in everything type of silicone they offered and they would test it on parts. The only time the rubber parts would not swell up was when they used a pure silicone that did not come in a spray bottle. Therefore concluded it was the propellants. |

i had this problem too. I just cleaned out the door jams and seals with quick detailer and it went away. Specifically you have to clean the top of the door where that fuzzy stuff is, get all the rubber seals too
its caused by the dirt getting between the rubber and the paint obviously you need to do this every so often and definitely after rain. the door jams get filthy after you drive in the rain.

just want to chime in...
as the teflon tape is not available where im at (order from us only)... and i did not feel like ordering it from bmw for 200 usd... i used this method. clean with soap water, and then with microfibers... basically get it as clean as possible. then i bought teflon spray. in my country its marketed as bicycle chain lubricant. its essentially a dry lubricant. applied it along the shadowline trim and went for a drive... all the rattles / squeek from the doors is gone... still have some tiny rattles inside the car, but its interior bits... thanks for the recommendation! btw the night before, i tried silicon spray... didnt really help too much. a bit maybe, but not like the teflon spray. Had the Teflon fix done on my 340ix a couple of weeks ago to stellar results. Funny thing is the tech that came out with me to test the car for diagnostic gave me a brief history of the problem. He mentions they had noticed initially that mostly the black trimmed cars had that issue so they thought it was caused mostly due to spirited driving to finally notice it was a trim problem(prevalent in black trimmed cars). I started to laugh, I still have a 2004 E46 325i with black trim that I bought new in 03 which I have been applying Gummi Pfledge since the early day to reduce door creaks. The only known permanent solution then was to change the trims to the chrome ones, which I didn't do due to aesthetics. Llast week I went to the parts counter and got some of that Teflon tape (to what I may add was an incredible price) and did the same fix to my E46. Guess what , it worked! Chassis is as stiff as day one and no creaks except for the drivers seat which I resolved in a minute.

I have had the teflon fix done about 1,000 miles ago now, and it is still as quiet as when I first got it back.
There are mini creaks here and there, but NOTHING like how it was before, which was down right embarrassing. This seems to be the permanent fix. It's too bad that they can't find a rubber compound that doesn't need teflon tape to make it quiet.

What width tape works the best for this? I can get 1", 1/2", or .625". I originally grabbed a roll of the cheap 1" tape but I have a feeling that it will be too wide. I'm thinking the .625 (5/8") might be best. I don't want to go too narrow as that will leave some of the rubber seal contacting the Shadowline trim, but too wide will stick out and look like crap.

I think I acctually used this one
http://www.diy.com/departments/t-rex...1200206_BQ.prd But it was black. Not at home now to check but both should do if black colour. It was on a car for months and it was perfect and not visible. |

I notice these are simple tapes. I thought we needed tapes with some felt (cushion) on them. But hey, if these work, then why not ! Thanks, once again....
