So if you like this setup, and still want to use your 17" winters, do like I'll do: Paint the front the color you like, and only get the back ones. Upgrades for the 328i and 335i are (either M Sport blue or M Performance red-yellow-orange): 370mm disks with matching calipers front 345mm disks with matching calipers rear.

Hi,
just found this post and have one additional question. The difference between calipers is clear, BUT which brake pads should I use for calipers 34116799465/6 with 340mm rotor and which ones for calipers 34116799469/70 with 370mm rotor? Thanks to anyone who can advise on this!! m. |

428 gets 11.8" rear rotors and 12.3" front 428 GC gets 11.8 rear rotors and 13" front 335 brakes are 13" rear and 13.4" front, this uses the m-sport front caliper and a traditional 1-piston sliding rear caliper. Upgrading to "M sport" brakes on the 428s gets m-sport front AND rear 2-piston calipers, which are fixed calipers and the bigger rotors from the 335. This is a no brainer upgrade if you like brakes (I do). For $600, you get a slightly better braking system than the stock on 335s. Upgrading to the "M sport" brakes on the 335 for $600 paints the front caliper blue and gives you the blue rear 2-piston fixed calipers. This is not a great deal and doesn't do much for the braking, since most of your braking is done with the front anyways. Upgrading to the "M performance" brakes on the 335 gets you 14.6" front rotors and 13.6" rear rotors, plus cross-drilled/grooved. Same basic calipers as above on the "M sport", but I don't know what the mounting looks like, since obviously it fits the bigger rotor. Most likely the caliper-half is a different part number from whomever really makes the brakes (brembo does lots of OEM stuff, even the relatively low-end). This could be worth it, but mainly you are getting the bigger rotors. IMO it's $$$ (several thousand) better invested in a real "big brake kit", with 4 or 6 piston stoppers up front and 4 piston in the rear. |

That's because the Calipers are exactly identical. The part numbers on the calipers are identical, the end numbers are different because of color code. Your rotors are different size, but the calipers aren't, and the brake pads are cross-compatible also.

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=858607 S2NHA M Sport Brakes (blue colored): S2NHA Variant 1: Front rotor: 340x30mm (Millimeter) / Brake Caliper with 4 piston Rear rotor: 345x24mm / Brake Caliper with 2 piston S2NHA Variant 2: (all 335i/d Version, Europe Version of 325d, 328i, 330d) Front rotor: 370x30mm (Millimeter) / Brake Caliper with 4 piston Rear rotor: 345x24mm / Brake Caliper with 2 piston Be aware that rear rotors 345mm are available in tow different version. You need to verify the fit the hand-brake/emergency brake installed. You possibly also need to change the dust cover plates to fit larger discs.

The pads are interchangable as the rotor working surface has equal width (say pad path)- the diameter is bigger so is the brake force arm, the contact area is the same.

These are miles ahead the M-Performance (same are in 335i stock fronts) pads, which have low initial bite and dull pedal feedback.
