Picked up a 2018 328d today.

Just picked up a clean used 2018 328d today. I commute around 100 miles a day and my 2011 Golf TDi was wearing me out. 200+k miles. The seat and overall driving experience was getting old.

That prompted me to start looking at what I could get that got comparable economy but was enjoyable to drive and that's what led me here.

I really wanted a loaded wagon with active cruise. Apparently that is a hard to find unit.

Anyhow this car has the MSport package and enough goodies to satisfy me.

Clean as a whistle Carfax (Yes I know that doesn't always mean what it appears) but apparently was bought in Bellevue new and traded in recently for a new M3.

Here's a list of how it was optioned. I have only driven it from the stealership to work (about 2 miles) but will get some time behind the wheel when I get off work.

Looking forward to perhaps retrofitting a few options as I find them missing and will use this forum to educate myself.

I forgot to add. Renton CDJR is an absolute joke. I was going to pick one up they have. It was listed on their website for around 25k. I showed up with a printout from their site. As I'm driving the car I ask the sales man how much is the car? He said 29k. I told him I had a flyer showing 25k.

Long story short they quickly changed the price on their website then acted dumb. He suggested I had an old webpage loaded on my phone (I literally pulled it up right there as we were speaking). He went to the sales manager then came back and said my phone must be wrong and to show him. He refreshes the page and POOF magically it's 29k.

I literally walked out and will never buy from them again.

Sadly years ago I bought a rig from their Bellevue location and had an excellent experience.

I cannot stand bullshit.

Looks like they changed the price again. Now it's $27,600.

welcome…I recently bought a 2018 328d rwd as well. Bought it out in Las Vegas and drove it back home to SC. One of the best road trips we ever had and the car did great. Great riding car and we got around 47mpg with varying weather conditions including 30+mph winds. I had CC set at 75mph.

I got rid of the 18” wheels and went back to 17” wheels, found a set of BMW wheels on CL.

Ooo an M sport! Lucky you, I settled for a base model lol.

Pro tip: get a kerma stage 1 tune and it'll be the perfect car.

The only catch is that because you have an LCI you can't flash the dme yourself like us pre-lci folk, it would have to be mailed out to them for a bench tune.

Why'd you downsize? I feel like most people would aesthetically prefer the 18's. I assume you did it for ride comfort?

Several reasons

- Ride comfort
- Less expensive tires
- More durable tire, bigger sidewall because of 1000 foot gravel driveway
- I actually like the 17” look
- Squared for tire rotation

Valid points.

I went from my stock square 17s with run-flats to square 18s without run-flats and the ride quality improvement was drastic. So good in fact that I made the 18's my winter set and got staggard 19s for the summer. Yes, I had to sacrifice some trunk space for a spare but I'm finally not lifting my ass off the seat every time I see a pothole in front of me.

I have a spare kit in the trunk and I am running 225/50/17 Michelin Defenders conventional tire.

I'll check that out. I had a Kerma tune in the 2011 Golf this 328d is replacing. I kept emissions in tact and it was great.

Wouldn't it be great if the loader I already own would work on this car.

Hmm....I just looked at the Kerma site. It looks like for stage 1 I have to mail a module in but for stage 2 it can be done at home?

Any recommendations as to which stage to get? This car is strictly a commuter so drivability and economy are very important to me.

Thanks!

lol, yeah unfortunately after 2016 they started locking the DMEs. It was super easy for my 2015, just plug and play.

I was skeptical at first when people told me about it as I wanted to keep my car both emissions legal and reliable, but after taking the plunge all my worries were put to rest. No ill effects other than filling the DEF tank slightly more often. No other supporting mods are needed and the car doesn't drive like it's tuned, it drives like it should've always driven from the factory. Usually you may think of tunes as your car hitting the gym, I'd describe this one as removing a thorn. Much less lag and I can actually confidently pass people on the highway now. 11/10 would recommend.

I would email them/call them, but I'm pretty sure you'd have to mail in your DME regardless. For stage 2 they will mail you a laptop to tune your transmission but I believe that's separate from the ecu tune. In my opinion, if you care about drivability and economy just do stage 1. Less power = more reliability. Also people have said the stage 1 is smoother and more friendly for a daily driver. I am very happy with my stage 1 tune that I've had for the past year and feel no regret or need for more power.

Thanks, when the time comes I'll give them a call. I really liked the one I got from them on my CJAA TDI.

Right now the car is still under warranty from BMW for a bit plus it's got the 2 recalls pending.

I'd like to get those taken care of first incase a computer reflash is part of their process since I cannot reflash it myself.

I didn't research at all what transmission these cars came with. Most of my research was regarding the engine.

Last night I looked into it a bit and apparently the ZF these come with is setting itself up to become a legendary transmission in terms of reliability, shift quality and economy. Bonus!

I do really like the way it shifts as it is. Seems to always be in the right gear. Almost unperceivable shifts (to passengers) and very fast to pick the right gear as needed.

Just a heads up, you have to quote people's messages for them to get notified of your reply. I just happened to stumble upon yours happenstance. If you're on iOS you can do this by hitting the " button on the bottom right corner of someone's post. On the desktop website there's a "quote" button. Not sure how it works on the android app.

The exception to this rule is when you are speaking to the person whose post it is. They will be notified of any activity on their post regardless of if you quote them or not.

What size boots do you run for the square 18" setup? The Pirelli runflats on our 2015 that we picked up in '18 are starting to get a little hard. I'm in no rush to change mind you. #SupplyChainIssues

My 18s are OEM 8j 397s and I run the OEM sizes which are 225/45. I find that size works great in the snow (narrow footprint) and it keeps the wheel diameter at 26 which is good for maintaining oem gearing and acceleration behavior.

Another good option if you want a little extra sidewall is 235/45. Although you increase the diameter slightly to 26.3 that amount is pretty marginal so one could argue that the benefits outweigh the consequences, especially for a winter set up or if you live someplace where the roads are bad.

In terms of tire type, when the 18s were my only set I ran Michelin AS3+ and they did fine year round on the east coast. Once I decided I wanted a new summer set I switched over to Michelin X Ice Snow as a dedicated winter. I still use Michelin all seasons on my summer wheels and I love them because they can really handle every condition (provided you have tread). I got a good 40k miles out of them before they felt unsafe to use on snow (which was around the 6/32 mark).
