Water Stain Instrument Cluster
I recently purchased a CPO 2016 340i xDrive. I am super excited and really enjoying the car. There is though, what appears to be a growing water stain inside the instrument cluster and I am wondering if anyone has an experience with this sort of issue. I thought the prior owner had spilled something near the trip computer reset button and the scope was limited to the left side of the stain, but I believe it is growing where now it's closer to the odometer. My current theory is a water leak somewhere in the firewall area is getting in there but on another forum some suggested maybe the liquid was getting in around the trip computer reset button possibly when it was "cleaned" by the dealer.

Water can do weird things in the winter. By chance parking in freezing temps? Kinda looks like it, but not sure.
If you are CPO, why not have the dealer check it out? |

I had this same issue on my car, has nothing to do with freezing temps as I live in socal.
I removed the lens and it wouldn't want to come out fully, possibly needed a polish but i just wiped it down and reassembled everything. |

But where did it come from? Or were you the poster who thought it may I've come from the "detail" that the dealer does and leaked through the mileage reset button.

As much as I love analog gauges, one thing that I won't be missing thanks to these new digital clusters: dirt, dust, hair, etc behind the glass.

I found plenty of posts about removing the entire F3x cluster (easy - 2 Torx) but none about removing the cover. Found this on the F2x forum - the cluster might be similar. Didn't see anything in the TIS. Good luck!
Just completed the lens replacement tonight in less than 15 minutes. The cover is in fact very easy to replace. Removal of the cluster from the car is as easy as it gets. Two T-20 torx screws at the top, pivot forward, remove 2 electrical connectors from the back, and it pulls right out. Six clips and four T-9 torx screws and it comes right apart / cover off. There are four T-9 Torx screws that must be removed from the back of the cluster & there are six clips that must be released. Two of the clips are on the bottom, two are on the top and there is one on each side. I did disconnect the battery just to be safe, remembering not to close the trunk while the battery was disconnected since the power latch won't release the trunk lid if there is no power. https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1539624 https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/

This happened to me as I used compressed air to blow away whatever dust and debris was behind the lens. As the air condenses it dries and leaves that mark.. Had to remove the cluster and lens to wipe clean, easy to do but be very careful as the plastic is extremely prone to scratches.
