your experience with stage 1 F30 / 320i?

Hey everyone,

Recently joined the fam starting out with the 320i which I love. As we all know they detuned that engine and is currently the least powerful 2.0t I know lol. Anyways my car is currently bone stock and still has warranty for the rest of the year.

It will almost cost me the same to tune the car as to wrap the interior lol so I'd rather go with the tune. Did some research and got to full flash > piggyback, best one I currently see is bootmod3.

What are your experiences running it and for how long? Any advice or tips would be appreciated

thank yall

Why do you think that bm3 is the best? Did you see an MG Flasher specs and results? Also it twice cheaper and you do not need a PC for flashing/map switching.

st.1 will give you ~5.2-5.4sec (0-100km/h) with 290hp and st.2 ~ 4.9sec (0-100km/h) with 330hp.

Yes MG flasher is a good alternative to bootmod3. Why is everyone so obsessed with BM3?

Thanks for your reply, Ima check that out, first I hear of it.

Don't know if it's the best, but from the reading on the few forum pages available. Most of them are older though, thats why I wanted to see what people are running.

Are you running it on stock internals / down pipe?

BM3 wouldn't be considered "best" because of some meaningless specs on an OTS tune. BM3 would be considered superior because it is a more proven and robust platform. Also, there is a much larger pool of custom tuners just due to it's popularity.

And as has been said, you absolutely are not getting 290-330 whp. Those numbers would even be generous at the crank for a 320i. From their website, it even shows that their dyno is reading high. I'd be discouraged from buying their product simply by the fact that they would post such skewed numbers.

And no, it does not require a PC. A phone and an OBD2/wifi adapter is all that is needed. Both things that would also be needed for the MG.

Overall, I'm not saying it wouldn't be a fair option to consider, but BM3 has a larger community and more robust features etc.

I am running a custom tune for 93 octane with a catless dp, an upgraded FMIC and a muffler delete on my 320i n20. I am attaching the dyno graph.

It amazes me how cheap it was to buy a 320i and make it 300 hp compared to more expensive platforms.

Hope it holds up for you longer than it did for me. Stage 2 sure is addictive. My advice is to run stage 1 - unless you don't mind having to install a new motor down the road.

Take it to a 1/4, post slip. Posting subjective dyno graphs displaying unrealistic numbers means very little.

MGF works with ENET cable or THOR Wifi adapter directly from smartphone. But BM3 require also OBD Agent (macos or windows PC) or special OBD hardware device.

Correct, I was just reiterating the ridiculousness of the claim, even measured at crank.

BM3 requires an ob2 to enet cable(which most vendors supply for free with license purchase, otherwise $20) that plugs into the wifi OBD agent. It costs $30-$50 to make the wifi agent. The thor adapter costs $60.

So yes, if you are trying to make a case for the individual that lives under a rock and does not have access to a computer for the 15 minutes it takes to put the agent on the SD card...you might have a point.

Otherwise, BM3 can be used just as the MG is... from phone to wifi adapter.

enet cable is enough for MGF, thor is not required.

Dyno #s can be manipulated, fabricated, inaccurate and subjective. It's a tool for tuners, not a scale/comparison for others. Post a 1/4 slip and we'll see what it actually makes.

Then I must be confused...If using just the enet, what is it plugging into?

Sure, I will do a 1/4 mile in the summer and post the results, during winter it is pointless here in Poland to conduct.

Meanwhile please take a look at my stock/stage 1 graph (w/o the FMIC back then). Stock number of 180hp and 270nm tq seems to be correct.

Also, my tuner has this dyno:

DynoProject 44 DP4L SYNCHRO

that seems to be respectable in the tuning community.

Best regards

Oh, now I see... So technically you'd have to buy two adapters. An OBD2 to ENET cable, and and micro/type C usb to enet to wire directly to your phone. So now your phone is tied down. Not terrible...but not really worth saving just $20-$30.

Subbed to this. I am on exactly the same boat. Currently deciding - BM3 or MGF.

BM3 is currently my preferred, mainly due to it being more popular, so a larger sample size of people have tested it and proved. MGF claims stage 1 flash results in same power and torque for both 320i and 330i - doesn't make sense to me. Also, the logging function is included on BM3 but for MGF it is an additional 99 USD/EUR, so the price isn't too far away from BM3.

I guess the benefit of MGF is the ease of flashing from phone with ENET to phone, or wifi agent. I know a wifi agent can be made for BM3 but required additional unit which needs usb input. MGF also has a very good dummy guide on installation.

I look forward to the time slip.

"Respectable" doesn't necessarily mean an accurate comparison to other differently calibrated dynos with different atmospheric variables.

Even with a 1/4 slip, we'd have to calculate differences due to weather, but it at least doesn't have the added variable of the dynos calibration.
