buying a B58
Hey guys, I'm relatively new to BMW and the f30 platform as a whole. But my whole life I've wanted to own a BMW after owning a jeep that I shamelessly still love and miss to this day. .
Anyway, I have a 2016 330i Luxury model that I've done a couple of things to but after a year of owning it and 1 second of thinking I knew I needed a B58 (((And Not A Swap)))... So, I believe I made a bunch of mistakes while buying my 330i, like buying a 330i , and I really don't want to repeat any of the old mistakes I made. My question is, what year and engine spec 340i should I buy as someone who likes to poke at the engine after they buy it and doesn't want a money-guzzling engine. |

theres only one engine spec for the 340i. There are a few iterations of the b58 engine where they tweaked timing components and some other ancillary parts but they are all the b58 engine. in the f30 chassis they all have the same output. In the g series they boosted output to 382hp I believe. It's a stable engine if you treat it right and know what you're doing. You'll also have to be worried about ECU software lockup nowadays. Id reach out to whatever tuning platform you plan to go with for specifics.
All that being said, you're gonna end up ass over head financially with the prices on the used car market right now. You really should only be buying a used car out of necessity or else you just throwing away literally thousands of dollars, patience is a virtual. but to each their own.

I would stick to the latter model years of 2018 & 2019. Some revisions were made up to the last run years and also some parts such as the injectors had slight revisions in the last years of the F30 B58.

Just want to say good move on ditching the 330 and going to a 340. Not worth the hassle of a million mods to get 340 speeds. Now, can I interest you in leaving the 340 and going for the 440? (Not selling one). The 2 door coupe bimmers look better than any other brand in my opinion. Excellent space, sport look. Getting out of the coupe feels a lot cooler than getting out of a 4 door sedan. Granted, if you have kids and daily drive the kids around, then forget what I said and get a 340

got a 2018 340 in the summer. best car I've ever owned. got it with 53k on it. already put 9k on it just driving around.
love it. it drinks gas if you don't use a real light foot or do alot of highway commutes but I didn't get it to hyper mile. I'm also running bm3 stage 1 93+ tune. |

I have a 2018 340 and am very pleased with it. I have the mppsk on my car and it is definitely a fun and fast car - sounds great too. I have been very pleased with gas mileage. I have 47k on it and have consistently seen 21 mpg city and 29-32 highway. 29ish if 80ish plus; 30-31 at 70-75; and 32 if at 60-70. It gets about the same gas mileage as my b48 4 cylinder X1. I have no complaints after 3+ years of ownership.

You get 20?! I'm lucky to get 18. A simple push of the pedal and I see the instantaneous mpg dip down into the low teens and single digits.

Great choice, I went from a 2013 Infiniti G37 to a 2015 428i and loved the car and the drive, but it felt so slow compared to my Infiniti. Going on two years with my 2017 340i and I absolutely love the car. But I agree with what others stated, maybe wait a bit for used car prices to go down. I heard CarMax gives pretty good trade in values, so I went and they are offering me $6k more than what I originally paid for my 340i almost two years ago. I was thinking about jumping to a M340i but decided to hold off a bit. Used car market is crazy, unless you can get a good chunk of positive equity from your 330i I would wait.

I just push my clutch in and coast a lot. That's with even getting on it a few times. I've always gotten better mpg in manuals then autos. And better then the manufacturers estimates |
