Lightbulb BMW F32 vs F30 Compared - 4 Series vs 3 Series

It's been known for a while that BMW's intention with the F32 4 Series coupe was to distinguish it from the F30 3 Series sedan more than a 3-Series-based-coupe-model has been with previous 3 Series generations. With the reveal of the 4 Series Coupe Concept, there's little doubt that this has been accomplished.

In addition to the unique styling elements you can see on the F32 concept, the F32 is longer, wider and lower than the F30, giving it a squat aggressive look. We've put together a visual look at how the F32 looks compared to the F30, along with some physical stats.

Look for the 4 Series Coupe Concept to debut in January at the 2013 Detroit auto show and production to begin in July 2013, for late summer delivery.

Compared to the F30 3 Series sedan, the F32 4 Series Coupe Concept is:

0.7 inches longer
0.5 inches wider
2.7 inches lower
Same wheelbase length
0.3 inches wider front track
0.6 inches wider rear track

The lower roof line appears to be a LOT more than the 2.7 inches - it makes a dramatic difference to the sportiness.

The taillights are fantastic, as is the sharper crease on the top of the trunk (instead of the double-crease).

And the more aggressive rear fenders are all win.

Awesome.

The interior will be the same, essentially, once stripped of all that individual crap. Though I notice the temperature dial is gone - good riddance!

I'm a huge fan of this new style.

Interior seems to be angled slightly a little bit more towards the driver on the concept. I can't tell if its the angle of the pic or not. The slope on the back is gorgeous!

Again, I just can't stop looking at the new 4!

Here's a straight on angle from another F30 interior.

Looks like the angle is the same as the F32 4 Series Concept.

I like the new 4 coupe but I dont see enough of a difference from the F30 sedan to warrant a significant price increase as in the 5 series sedan vs 6 series coupe.

Looks good but looks like BMW is trying to respond to Audi a5 rather than being BMW. From a mass consumer standpoint it will probably work.

That coupe makes the sedan look out dated.

DAMN!! Exactly!!

I am a bit disappointed with the headlights.. I hoped they would have their own identity.. Ohh well, I can live with that, such a gorgeous car! Thank you BMW!

I am a huge fan of the fastback look and the lowered roofline and the wider track!.. They really hit the jackpot now

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

Yeah no way from 5 series to
6 is a $15k-$20k price difference.

Both look amazing!

The 4 looks much bigger than the 3! (I know it's not)

Any chance we can work on a side-by-side 4 and 6 concept comparo? That would be more direct.

I wish my F30 had that lower, sleeker roof line.
(But I want my four-seater to have four doors, so I wouldn't get the coupe even if I was car shopping. Although maybe a 428i Gran Coupe four-door would be a nice replacement of the F30 when the time comes. )

now, THIS is an answer to a audi-design, the f30 was not a big banger, but the new headlights from f32 are a new way of design.

Not really fair to compare a concept to a production model but I see the difference.
Looks like the radio dashboard is a bit different from the sedan version.
