BMW diy tools needed especially for F30
I'm trying to put together my tool set when it comes to working on my 2016 340. I'm on a budget but looking to get as much of the necessary essentials as possible. Jack, jacks stands, tools, etc. I already got a lil E torq set i think its called but i know i need more. Any and all suggestions welcomed. I want to start out with jacks and jack stands and jack pad adapters because i haven't been under my car since i bought it over a year now, and need to stop paying dealer price for oil change when i know i can do it myself. I already replaced my spark plugs, and tank vent valve, so i know i can work on my car with youtube an a lil help lol.
Thanks for all your help. |

I've found my homemade ramps made of a 1x10 on top of a 2x10 make it easier to get a jack under front center jack point.
I'm in Summit if you ever get stuck for a tool...I've been a collector for years...but mostly basic sockets/ratchets/breaker bars/ and a decent variety of extensions have allowed me to get to most of what I've needed. I keep an 18" 1/2" breaker bar with long socket for my wheels--including an 18" pipe I fit over it so have plenty of torque no matter what. I also have a pipe (gas line) to fit over my 3/8" breaker bar. My Makita 1/4" impact helps speed up some things, but I always hand thread first. If you don't have magnetic bits, butyl rubber (aka dumdum...the seal for the vapor barriers) is great to put on a socket or bit so the screw/nut doesn't fall off. ...and my favorite diy trick I hope helps you: you learn how to parts in by taking the bad ones out. Take pics along the way. Good luck neighbor!

I made some jack stands from 2 x 6 lumber that was glued and screwed together. I use some rubber jack pads to fit the jacking points so I don’t damage the car jacking points. My stands are twice as long as they are wide. Provides a sturdy base for any wheel work and rotations. Would never get under the car using these however. I did buy some Rhino Ramps from Walmart to do oil changes.

If you have a jack, stands, a torx bit set, a screwdriver set, and metric bits as well, don't forget a set of trim tools for all your interior mods/needs. I even used a trim tool to pop my spoiler off without scratches. And a screw gun is handy too.

I have the dj esco jack stands but I don't know, the welds look like I did it. Really terrible welds. I never trust them. Would like to get a better setup if anyone has suggestions.
- spark plug socket - oil filter socket - wheel hangers (do a stud conversion) - suspension fork spreader - torx / etorx sets - crows foot and long extensions for the secondary clutch cylinder (we don't say slave anymore) - tekton 11mm stubby reversible ratcheting box wrench, bleed x drive clutch without making a mess and removing the front drive shaft - motive pressure brake bleeder - windows laptop with bootleg esys & ista-d (newtis is gone... F) - extra 10mms and a good magnet There's probably a couple I'm forgetting. But that's what I've ran into so far. I would like to get the diff tools and the b58 timing/vanos kit. A proper euro ball joint kit would be nice. The b58 injectors show a $400 jig tool to remove them. I don't think that's really needed? |

I have these jack stands, four of them. They're taller than most, so you can get the car high enough to work underneath more or less comfortably. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Another plus is that the top of the saddle is less V shaped than most, so it works well with the BMW 'hockey puck'. Quality is very good, my only complaint is that the triangle braces on the bottoms of the legs don't contact the ground, so the legs will gouge black top. I glued 3/8 inch plywood to the bottoms of those braces to fix that.
