Air Duct / boomerrang picking up rocks
So its winter in philly and they use small rocks instead of salt (i guess salt is too expensive) and i noticed the side air duct is actually collecting the small rocks. I am worried they will eventually let loose and chip the paint. Anyone aware of a grill option for this? I would prefer something you cannot see. I guess i could duct tape (black) some mesh in the wheel well for the winter, but i was hoping for something not that ghetto.
I am actually surprised they are that wide open. |

Yup. I was even gonna do a PSA about. Took a picture and everything.
My tires are wider and stickier than stock, that's not gonna help me. I would imagine anyone that added spacers will really notice this too. I blast the rocks back towards the wheels with my air hose. Wait til the OCD guys see this shit. |

Well then, you / they probably won't be able to unsee this once you / they see it and figure it out.
Sorry about the size. I even used the dimensions F30 recommends. |

i just took this pick, its like a quarry in there, i even cleaned it out yesterday.
don't hate on the dirty car, its snowing here =) I cleared that out yesterday before the snow storm, i accumulated all of that during a 10 mile commute, pretty damn annoying. I didnt bother talking to the dealer as i dont consider it their problem. i did email customer relations at bmwna though, it seems to me they should put a screen at the start of that opening in the wheel well. Im curious to see if they ever revise this, its a lease and i can live with this for 3 years just a pretty odd flaw.. Last edited by cryptz; 01-22-2015 at 10:24 AM.. |

That vent is real, so there is an opening in the wheel well. There is a lip on the end of the trim, so basically the passageway through the fender is lower (or larger) than the exit hole. the tires kick the stones into the hole and they cannot get out until they pile up high enough to overcome the lip. They shouldnt go in there in the first place since the only way out is to most likely scratch down the whole side of the car. There appears to be a plastic insert/liner in the vent, they need to put mesh on it to stop this (or maybe i should just move to somewhere warmer)

I picked my F32 up in March. It snowed right away after. I noticed the rocks and salt in the vent. They just get sprayed out during a wash, or take a keyboard duster and blow them out. It's not a big deal.
