Man that would suck if someone got the one available now(MPE), then found out it is not compatible with the MPPK kit for the new 340i.

What is more likely is that the Standalone MPE does not include a mid pipe (it is just an axelback). And the MPPK+MPE get the Catback exhaust to achieve the Hp/torque figures.

Took my car in to the dealer to attempt to have the exhaust installed a few days ago. They called me back and said there was a bulletin from BMW telling them not to install the exhaust without some software update (they didn't know if this was talking about the power kit or some other software update). After some discussion, we decided to try and see if the exhaust (which they already had in stock) would fit my car and found that it did not. My car has a manual transmission and apparently the exhaust system they had was only for 340i with automatic transmissions and there were differences in the routing of the exhaust piping, the MPE they had would not line up correctly on my car.
I was shocked to hear that the manual and automatic cars would need different mufflers and to also find out that there was apparently no version available for cars with the manual transmission. RealOEM seems to confirm this, see the link below although I may be confused on their terminology. Usually "S205A = Yes" means the exhaust is compatible with the standard automatic and "S2TBA = Yes" means the exhaust is compatible with the sport automatic transmission. The RealOEM listing may not mean anything but has anyone else heard from their dealer that there are different versions available for automatic and manual vehicles? http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=18_1153 Last edited by Remonster; 12-26-2015 at 08:33 PM.. |

It basically opens the valve all the way in sport mode for more aggressive sound. If the SW is not updated the valve will be controlled the same as the more conservative OEM exhaust. Edit: the auto vs Manual fit issue seems to me, I could be wrong, that there is the mid pipe making it a full Catback exhaust system. Which is cool!

According to my dealer, BMW has instructed them not to sell the exhausts until the software update has been released. They have supposedly pulled the part numbers for the exhaust system from their system so it cannot be sold at the moment.

CH = Switzerland.
Or, officially, the Swiss Confederation (Latin: Confoederatio Helvetica) hence its abbreviation - CH.

I have the MPE on my car, although I've no idea what the part number is, it's great. We have an RS6 too with the optional Akrapovic exhaust and they are similar volume. You can hear the 340 more outside of the sport mode (ie in normal 70mph sitting in 8th you can't really hear the RS6 but you can hear the 340 humming). If it's anything to go by, my wife said the 340 sounds better and she was driving behind me in the RS6. But maybe this is more to do with the engine characteristics. I'm still running in the 340 so not too sure how it sounds at hi rev changes, but I'll let you know in a week or two. Also, mine is a UK automatic touring....just for reference.
