Dealership just got word from BMW this is the message my dealership sent me:

BMW got back to us regarding the noise. They have confirmed that this particular noise is a normal characteristic for this vehicle. In this case, there is no fix.

lol
to be fair the 340s arent the only ones experiencing this
but that is a cop-out statement relayed by the dealership
was that direct from BMW HQ?
squeaking belts usually lead to worn belts and eventually leads to failure
my guess is that their new tensioner isnt doing its job

Yea directly from HQ.

I don't think it's a cop-Out statement...

That's bollocks IMO. Mine didn't make a sound until it got a new gearbox and i-step upgrade. It's been doing it ever since, along with constant cold starts.

Have your dealers contact BMW and see what they say... I got mine in May and I noticed the sound roughly about 2 weeks after having it. My brother got his in July and it's also doing that noise ... maybe it is normal maybe it isn't but we're all covered under warranty anyways

Today when I was leaving work, after cooling off for 5,5 hours. I started the car and was shifting manually, and It squeaked once when first going from 1st-2nd and then again when going 1st-2nd-3rd and even into 4th!!

Cannot believe this bollocks cop out answer. I will bring this up when I go for a wheel and oil change.

It is such a loud and embarrassing sound.

Hello,

2016 340xi, just picked up in June. Just noticed this evening on full throttle from cold, ac on, in auto and manual modes. Seems inconsistent and difficult to reproduce.

Any updates on your end? Won't bring it in unless there's a fix.

I am not scheduled until end of september. But you can read up on top, that BMW supposedly said that this is "normal".

Yeah I saw that. I would expect if it was "normal" they would have some explanation as to what this noise signifies... Any thoughts?

Yea squeaky belts are not normal.. they may seem innocent enough until they snap one day and leave you hung out to dry

Agreed. Hopefully this will come up as a TSB soon and be resolved. I agree with the previous poster who said there's no point replacing it with the same part.

Problem is they say theres "no problem" so why would a TSB be forthcoming? I do hope they will address this tho

Will be interesting to see / hear if 2017 B58 cars make same noise. At some point BMW will fix this and implement into production cars.

Keep an eye on www.realoem.com to see if belt tensioner or other parts change. As of today realoem only goes up to 5/2016 production.

I think im getting this noise in my 340i too. I thought it was tyre squeel when going over some grates as i accelerate out of the junction at work, but i noticed it again today and i dont think there was any grates etc on the road

Mine does this sometimes in my automatic when it's not fully warm and I manually shift between 3-4K while giving s decent amount of throttle. Other than that I haven't really noticed it. I try to let my car warm up fully before I drive it even remotely hard, which could be why I do t hear it too often anymore.

That's a bummer

Good thing it's not related to the timing chain

Any new developments? Anybody's car stopped doing it with more miles?

2016 340i here with 5k miles. 8AT.

Mine does it from 1-2, when cold with 50-75% throttle applied, usually in sport/sport plus modes. Happens maybe 1-2 times a month.

I've never been able to make this sound happen without going directly into Sport + mode immediately and accelerating aggressively.

This only happens when I start the car cold, put it in Sport+, and then take off with more than mild throttle.

Moral of story: let your car warm up before Sport+ and before heavy accel.

Same here. Only does it under these conditions. But BMW says its normal, smh guess we wont see a fix/recall unless things start to break.

This problem is a daily occurrence for me. Sounds like the car is broken whenever it happens.
