2018 M Sport F30 405m Tyres
Hi
I have genuine 405m 20" wheels and need to get tyres. I have heard of the standard tyres 225/35 and 255/30 giving a firm ride and wanted something a bit more comfortable. I have read some people running 20" rims with 245/35 at the front and 255/35 at the rears. Question is, with stock ET of 36 front and 47 back and stock width of 8 at the front and 8.5 at the rear, can i run these tyres without rubbing? Also if i wanted to add spacers can i have 12mm at the front and 15mm at the rear without any rubbing? Car is not lowered on standard msport suspension for now Thanks |

Check the TireRack website. The Spec section for each tire size gives the exact measured diameter. Subtract your previous tyre diameter from the diameter of the size that you are considering, and divide by 2 to get exactly how much sidewall height that you will gain. Typically it may range from 0.2" to 0.5". 20" tyres and wheels are the most susceptible to damage on rough roads and especially if you hit a pothole. They prefer pristine roadways. My favorite tyre model is the summer Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. I was amazed when I switched from runflats at how much softer and smoother the MPS4S soaked up rough roads. Quiet and fantastic in rain too. For an all season, I'd consider Michelin PS A/S 4. Very similar properties. Hope this helps! |

Absolutely agree with johnung. However, if comfort is your main criteria, consider the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5. A more comfortable, silent and still very capable tire, especially in wet conditions. As a bonus, it has the best rim protection I've ever seen and it's the lightest UHP tires on the market. As PS4S is significantly sportier tire in dry conditions and does everything well, thus it is the first choice of many. The sacrifice in comfort, noise and rim protection is there, but surprisingly small considering how sporty the tire is.
You should be fine with the 12/15 spacers (you can go even with 18 or 20 rear for more aggressive looks). Depends on the tire and car, you can get a very slight rubbing of front fender liner at full lock or near of it with 245/35/20. No big deal, but if you don't accept it/don't want to risk it, try the fitment first or decrease the diameter a bit. Last edited by J555; 01-06-2021 at 04:08 PM.. |

I ran these wheels on my car lowered on HR Springs. 235/35/20 Fronts and 255/35/20 Rears. I had 12mm spacers in the front and 15mm spacers in the rear, never had any issues rubbing even with full load in the car.
