Help identifying part

Hello,
I just bought a used 2015 bmw 335i as my first car since the high school beater unfortunately had to be retired and have never been much of a car guy so humour me if this is an incredibly dumb question. I was testing the brake fluid on the right engine bay side when I noticed the left side cover was not on correctly, so I took it off to re-adjust it and found this piece of equipment mounted on the fuse box with Velcro and wired to the battery. Can't find anything that identifies what it is or what brand it is. I assume it's aftermarket as it is held on by Velcro and it's wires are separate from the rest. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Try following the other end of the wire to see where it goes. Obviously not OEM fitting, definitely aftermarket. Maybe a phone charger, dashcam etc. Cheers.

Flux capacitor? Keep it below 88 MPH just in case.

Yeah, trace the wire if it goes anywhere other than power and ground. If it ONLY has power and ground, it could be a GPS tracking device or something like LoJack. That was a Kies video recently where they randomly found a GPS tracker (IIRC) hidden in a car that was bought used...

Update

I appreciate all the responses and took your advice. I immediately went out and tried hitting 88 mph but unfortunately didn’t time travel. Jk, but I did go see if I could follow the wires, at which point I realized it was only connected to the power and ground. I pulled the device off the velcro and realized there was a blinking light on the back. I disconnected it and took it to autozone and they said it was most likely a gps tracker but they’ve never seen one with no branding on it. I have it disconnected and there is a android port on it so I’m going to take it to a public computer tm and connect it to see if I can get any more info on it. Thanks again everybody!
