VRSF Intercooler / MHD Stage 2+
So I decided to pull the trigger on an intercooler. Went with the VRSF street core non HD due to the new revision and them having a denser fin pack.
I had MHD stage 2 and made the jump to 2+ with the addition of the intercooler. First, the quality of the intercooler was top notch. I wish I took more picture, but I was so excited to throw it on. Install took about 15 minutes, as I have already had taken the stock one out for the charge pipe. I have read some horrible reviews of VRSF products lately, but the DP, CP, and now intercooler have all been top notch. I have logged a couple pulls, and intake temps have actually dropped during my small pulls. Ambient being around 93 here in vegas, IAT's would drop to about 88 degrees from 2500 to 6000 in 4th gear. MHD Stage 2+ feels a little smoother the just stage 2.....anyone else notice this? Once I get some good logs I will post for review, but so far this new VRSF revision is awesome! |

Nice first review on the updated VRSF 5" Street FMIC! Is it a perfect fit with their CP?
What are you using to log IATs? I thought it was physically impossible to get IAT < ambient temp? |

Fitment was perfect with their charge pipe, and stock TIC piping.
I use MHD logging software to log IAT, and I am just stating that LAS VEGAS ambient temp was around 93 degrees. No meth or added fueling, just crappy 91 octane |

Congrats OP!
VRSF HD does a great job keeping IAT as low as possible, it is impossible to have the temp inside the car lower than ambient

Mike if ambient temps are in the 90s,under idle and boost the temp is gonna rise above 90 degrees. The thing to look at is how many degrees over idle and boost does it go. It will never drop to 88 degrees with a fmic is what I think you are saying correct?

Pretty much from what I know, if temps ambient is 90F IAT, its impossible for you to run lower than 90F IAT (which means your FMIC is 100% efficient which is impossible) unless you run meth or a type of extra cooling.

This is correct. It's physically impossible to cool charged air to or below ambient air temp in an air-to-air heat exchanger. The OP claim is BS!!
What he may have meant is that temp at T(0) or idle verses temp at T(1), maybe cruising at 70 mph or at the end of a WOT pull, dropped from T(0) to T(1) which is typical for an efficient FMIC. I would like to see a log showing IATs and ambient air temp.

I think OP meant temp after a pull are lower than starting temp (not ambient) and that is a sign of a very efficient intercooler

Just upgraded my FMIC with VRSF (HD), along with MHD flash tune. One thing I noticed is my oil temperature in normal driving drops to 200-210 degree. Before it was around 240 degree. Nice!!

It's usually impossible to get below ambient with an air to air FMIC, no other power adders or help like Methanol Injection or Nitrogen.
That being said, it does sound like the VRSF HD FMIC is doing very well and it is one of our more popular FMIC upgrades. Measurements at idle are pretty silly as the vehicle will heat soak any intercooler at idle sitting in stagnant heat. It's best to do controlled testing in a repeatable environment such as a specific spot on a freeway after adequate time of cooling of your FMIC from city traffic or other stop and go driving. |

Not just usually impossible...it's always impossible. The science is clear that charged air temp can never drop below ambient with an air-to-air heat exchanger only.

Apple to oranges but on a jet, the “air conditioning unit” basically is taking pressurize air off the engine bleeds, goes through a series of air heat exchangers, and then the air is expanded (compressed air hot, expanded air cool) and cool air is supplied to the cabin and cockpit. Granted, the air pressure of the engine bleed is around 60-70 psi and ends the journey around 20-30 psi. So you can have 90 degree ambient temps with conditioned air much lower. In fact, they can even ice up. But it’s basically just boosted air, intercoolers, and allowing the air to expand.
