N55 Wastegate Adjustment

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working on adjusting my wastegate on my F32 435i (N55, Stage 2, Bootmod3) due to drivetrain warning possible to continue journey warning and some error codes that popped up on ISTA+. The initial error I was trying to resolve was related to the wastegate position being out of range.

What I’ve Done So Far:
Connected to ISTA+ and ran the wastegate system test
Found the closed position measurement was -3.55mm (setpoint should be 0mm)
Adjusted the wastegate rod by moving both nuts towards the actuator arm
I was expecting this to change the measured value closer to 0mm
Ran the adaptation procedure in ISTA again, but the measurement is still stuck at -3.55mm

I’ve also noticed that my exhaust tone has changed, pops and bangs don’t sound the same.

Error Codes Before Adjustment:
120408 - Charging pressure control: Switch-off as consequence
123432 - Electric wastegate, learning limit stop: Stop position (wastegate closed) outside tolerance

Would really appreciate some help

I’ll upload pictures – thanks in advance for any advice! You can see in the final picture I have adjusted it by a few threads, but still showing -3.55mm on ISTA and throwing the drivetrain warning

If you're using real ISTA that you paid for, I would say the position sensor in the EWG is bad. But with bootleg ISTA, it's anybodys guess if the error is hardware or software.

Heya, so is this what is probably throwing the drivetrain warning too and making the pops and bangs sound weird? I can hear the turbo spooling up still, it's just a bit quieter than normal. How could I pin it down to the sensor gone bad?

I gave you advice on my last post. If it was real ISTA with an ICOM and a paid subscription the EWG is probably bad and needs replacement. If it's bootleg ISTA it could be bad software on the PC or bad hardware on the car

Heya - is that because you have seen this specific issue on bootleg copies of ISTA before? I will just take it to a programming specialist then who has a legit copy of ISTA

FWIW the opened up versions of ISTA and E-Sys found on this forum work off of the original framecode, it's the licensing recall and file signatures that are forged.

Providing the data files are kept up to date then they'll read and tweak just fine, the only downfall is when bigger refreshes are pushed by the OE dev's which newer cars require; you won't be able to use legacy versions on these cars.

Question for OP.. did you manage to adjust the wastegate from up top or was access under the car definitely required? I'm wanting to test mine (when I get the time) as I have a little play/rattle in mine.
