High mileage n55

My car just hit 80k miles. My extended warranty expired in about 444 miles so I went to Bmw for an issue with Bluetooth to figure out how to fix it and they ended up telling me the issue along with:
2 oil leaks ( covered under warranty ) valve cover gasket and not sure about other one. I'll update once I know.
Intake inlet pipe cracked and the vacuum hose completely broke off(not covered) 400 too fix.

Last month my charge pipe blew from just regular 50mph driving which I did upgrade.

If you have a higher mileage n55 I would go get it checked because I never realized any of this because the car drove fine. I recently switched my aftermarket intake and threw the stock on and when I started my car it was acting weird and that's when I realized the inlet was cracked.

I have a 3rd party warranty that I got pretty cheap too so I'm happy I went with it when I bought the car. Just throwing this out there for people to check because I thought my car had no issues and boom. Hopefully it'll run new for a while now and give me a few years of 0 issues lol.

If you dont mind me asking which 3rd party warranty company did you go with?

My maintenance plan with BMW is running up in the next few months and want some kind of coverage for piece of mind.

Red shield protection, I have there premium plan. I bought my car in west palm and they offered it so I did a 3 year plan, I don't remember how much but I know it was not much. It didn't cover my combox that has took a shit. But it covered ignition coils and now these leaks. I think it's bullshit they won't cover the inlet pipe but I'm just happy to save money on the leaks because those are the major things

Of course! Anyone I can help lol. I'm just hoping this is the last of issues because my car had been flawless for 3 years and now out of no where it's like everything wants to fall apart

Every person has there own opinion. This post is geared towards just higher mileage n55's. Whether your 70,80,90,100+. Different cars at different miles things happen to this is just to give others in the same boat some info too look for to possibly help them.

I have a stock N55 Inlet Pipe if you need one.

Note: This is the pipe that connects on one end to the pipe that comes from the airfilter box across the top of the radiator. The other end of the Inlet Pipe goes down to connect to the inlet of the turbocharger.

Yes that is the pipe and damm that would of been great. They started already so it's all good I appreciate the offer

My car is at 78K miles and I just noticed I have the same valve cover leak (i'm guessing its on the passenger side of the engine above the turbo?). Apparently its common issue in these cars as the gaskets they use wont stand up to the heat over time. My car has also give me zero problems for the past 3.5 years of ownership until this.

Yeah that is where it is. I was in the same boat.
As far as I know the part is not expensive but the labor is a lot.

Did they replace the gasket only or the entire valve cover as well?

I'm not too entirely sure. It's at bmw now. When I get it I will let you know. They told me it actually had 2 leaks. The first tech only saw the valve cover gasket leak and when they called to update me they said it has 2.

Most likely your Oil Filter Housing Gaskets are leaking as well. Common problem on every BMW and BMW refuses to address it with better gasket material. Direct Injection motors get hot and the gasket material basically becomes plastic over time with the heat. I've had both replaced on my F10 and F30. Had the same leaks on my E90 as well.

Other high mileage issues you are approaching is the waterpump and thermostat. BMW likes to use plastic and those get just as brittle and fail between 80-100k miles.

Thanks for that, I will ask them about those as well. And yeah I'm at the point of replacing all plastic in the car lol. Crazy to see you have had to do that on all your Bmw models! You would think for such expensive cars they would invest more money into better engine components

BMW only cares that it makes it past the 3yr/36k mark for the 90% who lease.

That's the joke about their covered maintenance being shorted and limited as well that BMW's are so expensive to maintain, even BMW can't afford it

OFHG leak at 67k miles, covered by Route66. Going in next week for left lower strut (or lower control arm as they're called I believe) and steering wheel column rattle.

They thought there was a leak on the oil pan but they want to fix it and then have me bring it back after 1k miles to make sure the oil on the bottom pan isn't just coming from the leak up top.

Yeah the leaks seem to be fairly common over 50K miles. I had my OFHG go at about 70K and the belt tensioner went shortly after that. It is an annoying rattle at low rpm that will drive you crazy. Part number on this is 11287594969. I would replace the belt while this is being replaced since you will have it off anyway.

Another thing to keep an eye on is the plastic hose going from the coolant expansion tank to the radiator. Mine became very brittle and snapped while driving. Coolant sprayed everywhere and I got stuck on the side of the road. Part number 17128570061 in case anyone has this happen.

i have a 102k fbo 2014 bmw 435i that i just got misfires on. read on forums that it could be the spark plugs or ignition coils. i upgraded to ngk spark plugs 2k miles ago so couldn't be it. so i narrowed down to either ignition coils or a bad fuel injector. i just replaced all 6 ignition coils and still having a p0302 misfire code in cylinder 2. so most likely will be a bad injector. anyone have experience?
