Servicing

Hi just joined looking for good knowledge, I bought 2014 330d last October, absolutely loving it. Just over 42k miles on the clock and looking at getting service in the next month, so far its got 3 stamps, 18k 24k and 36k latter was paper form not on I drive. I am just wondering is it worth servicing and recording on I drive or paper form? What have you guys done? I am in the North East. Autotech in Darlington have good reviews and have diagnostics to record service on Idrive. What sort of price should I be looking at for major service? Bmw quoted in excess of £500. Can anyone recommend independent specialist in the middlesbrough area ? Many thanks

independent may quote 300 bmw may quote 500 if you do low miles it may be only 200 extra over 2 years if on the other hand yoy do lots of moles ie 15k/year etc independent. Just my viewpoint.

With regards to the main dealer price it may be cheaper booking online.

Check if the indy has access to the BMW AOS portal. If they don't, and write the service history onto the idrive another way it'll be overwritten the next time you visit a main dealer for servicing. If they don't have access I'd want a physical stamp too.

Same situation for me. Two services on the idrive and one done by a non-dealer franchise. I chose to maintain the idrive services by using an Indy.

Be careful though - there are independents who update the idrive and the BMW central database and those who just update the idrive. The latter will be lost when you send it to a dealer and the data effectively resets based on BMW servers.

Access to update the BMW database costs money is why they don't. I chose an Indy that updated the central database too so it's all stored and up to date.

Mine is updated on idrive - when the next derive is due etc, but there is no 'history' at the top of the service requirements page. I q this with the Indy and they showed me the page confirming they had updated BMW central servers. Does anyone know my strive history isn't showing? Thanks

Your service history should be updated with what has been done in the relevant menu - with a dealer number 00000. Not sure what you mean by not showing?!

Has it been serviced by a main dealer previously? If so you should at least have them services showing.

I wonder if the main dealer hasn't updated the idrive after the first service (or any previous service) that the option is still 'locked'?

Bit of a question with this regarding what shows in the idrive. I am thinking of going to an indy bmw specialist who states they update the idrive and do it online as well. However from picture they've shown for this the name of the business shows in the idrive where the 0's would be. Is this indicative of them not actually updating it online or is this plausible too? (If you happen to know)

What year is your car? On the early FXX models (around 2012-2013) some of them didn't have the option unlocked at the time for some reason. You just need to activate it via coding and it should then appear, I know as I had to do this on my 62 plate F30.

That's a new one to me, I've only ever known it to be digits. Not sure if you can replace the digits with text using the 'HU Service Manager' online tool that anyone can use if that's what they're doing instead to get it to show on iDrive but in terms of them doing it online as well on the BMW server, then I believe they can only do that if they have paid BMW to access their servers?

If they do in fact have access to the BMW servers but can't actually update iDrive genuinely then I believe if you ever take your car to BMW again in the future, when BMW update the service history it should download everything from the server onto the car so the non-dealer service would then genuinely show up on the car, if that makes sense.

New one to me too. Ask them why they do that and not revert to the standard five digit coding maybe?

Checked online, £366 for oil change, fuel filter, air filter, micro filter. Nearly £200 difference from over the phone booking crazy. Thanks for letting me know, Discount when booking online.

Make sure you screenshot it and take it along. They'll try to charge you the higher price without proof of the online quote.

366 is online price for major fluids/filters. If you go to complete the booking online you’ll pay an extra £20 something for their standard scope which main dealers apply to all services. If you want a complete service history it may be due the vehicle inspection element which I recall takes it to a grand total of £454ish?

It's a 2016 f33. I'll need to try the BimmerCode thing anyway so will do see if it's active
