Rattle/loose/fart noise on acceleration F30

Hi, I've been struggling with a weird noise when I press the acceleration the best I can describe it as a light tin pit is light being banged when I'm pressing the acceleration or cards and being skipped like kids do on a bicycle.

Anyone had this or have it or know what it might be?

It's a 328i 2012

Well it doesn't really sound like a turbo from what I think and it's also there on any speed

I am thinking you likely are hearing what I've hear recently (here's my thread) : https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1647106

Does it sound like this?

I found that in this thread - https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1646586

I ordered the parking brake cable retainer clip from ECS as it seems like that may be the cause. I'll replace it this weekend and report back.

No thankfully nothing this bad, it sounds like an older car when pressing acceleration and I'm only at 70k

Look up wastegate rattle and also the exhaust flap rattle. I'm sure it's one of those two

I'm in a similar situation to you too Nyc212

I only get it during light acceleration from a standstill and not while the car is already in motion.
It's worse when I'm in moving from standstill on an upward incline.
The sound seems to be coming from the rear side.
I've looked under the car but nothing seems loose and doesnt seem to be exhaust flap rattle.

Keep us posted if you find a solution.

Yea sounds about right, I also noticed it on moderate speeds of 30-50mph when going through a tunnel it can be heard due to the echo.

I had the car lifted twice and the mechanics can't find anything. Had a mechanic ride with me as well and also says he doesn't know.

I'm just hoping it's not an engine issue, the timing chain on these gets me very afraid.

I dont think it's an engine issue (I hope too).
I'm thinking and hoping that a body trim under the car somewhere is loose and just needs to be tightened.

I have had two similar rattles - one was the exhaust flap because the pin had fallen off. Quick replacement. The second (and ongoing) one is a slight play in the wastegate probably causing a wastegate rattle as Solidjake said. The exhaust rattle is very obvious once the pin's fallen off so I suspect yours being more subtle might be the wastegate rattle.

Mine sounds exactly like this. Did the clip fix the noise? Can you guide me to the correct clip on ECS or elsewhere? Thanks!

Put the car in the air. Was able to relieve the sound with the help of 5 zip ties! Took all of 5 minutes, no tools needed or anything adjusted.

It's the actuator pin in your exhaust. It gives off a bit of a rattle at cold start or if you're in sport and the car shifts ya?

Bumping this thread as I have the same exact noise in that video posted above. Did the clips resolve the issue?

Sorry to bump an old tread, but this is why I love this forum; Thanks for the pics which gave me the confidence to just zip tie them up

Once the car was on jack stands I could easily see the broken clip. That is a lot of work to replace something that is bound to fail again. Rather have the zip ties fail and then easily replace them.
