Sad to report that I just sold my 2013 328xi with 227k miles. She has been strong as an ox until the last month. Low pressure fuel pump failed causing and then the next week the engine lost all compression. Not sure exactly what caused the lost of compression. Dealer said timing chain was still tight as I changed that about a year ago. Didn’t want them to continue to diagnose since the end result will be the same. Needed a new engine so I decided to let her go. Now time to go car shopping.

227k miles is commendable from any car, but is a testament for how well you cared for it. Sorry for your loss, here’s hoping the next one treats you just as well.

Sorry for your loss although you had quite the run! Couple follow up questions.

1. Why did you address the timing chain last year? Failing?

2. stock turbo?

Hoping to get close to that number before moving on.

120k on the odo. No and no, and don't plan to. Trans shifts perfectly fine. Don't have a transfer case on my car.

I'm following the schedule outlined here if you haven't stumbled across this classic. It's at least worth a read.

thanks for your answers, it's true that when reaching 100k miles it gets tricky dealing with those decisions.

Since my engine has been changed (have 2000 miles on it) I decided to go forward and change all the oil I mentioned since its never been changed, called 2 dealers locally that insisted on lifetime oil.

As reference, I'll have transmission /differential (front and rear) and transfer case oils done at a Indy, all included for 1000$ USD

my car is a 2013 335i xdrive M package.

Brakes issues

Hi there all ,
I'm very frustrated about my brakes. I owe a f30 sedan, In the past 6 moth I've changed the rotors and pads for 5 times , I know I might been stupid that I didn't look into it earlier but I thought it's because of the bad weather or to many miles but it looks like is not. So I've changed 5 brakes disc and pads in half a year and lately I wear them 3 weeks and they got fucked up again. Today I just find out that its only the left side front and back but nobody tell me what can cause it. I hear that it can be the caliper but they've been check and they're are fine. Then they said that I might be the carrier or bracket caliper , don't know exactly how is it called and recently I find out thelat is possible to be the wheel hub as well. If is anyone that come through this and give me an advice will be great. Many thanks.
Sorry if I put all this worn but I've not no more ideas what to do!!
Regarding your questions about the issues , the above is mine and the mileage on the car is 95k miles. Mention that i have done 60k in the past 18 month's!

150k and Still Going Strong

Recently, my 2014 335i clicked over 150k. Still going strong.

I've only had 4 repairs during this time (and I'm not including anything that would be otherwise considered wear-and-tear items).

At 110k, had to address the Valve Cover Gasket
At 130k, had to address the Oil Filter Housing Gasket
At 140k, rear driver side wheel lock needed to be replaced (unsure why but my car failed Maryland inspection and this was the part that needed to be fixed to receive a clean bill of health).
At 150k, go-to-mechanic said that both control arms were starting to weaken, so replaced both of those.

All other components are still the factory-original the day I took possession, including the oil pan gasket and the electronic water pump. I did have installed a charge pipe as well as an upgraded intercooler back at 100k.

Love your car and it will love you. That is the way...

Going to change high pressure diesel pump at 200k km, there was not a problem, doing it just by serviceman advise.

168,000: Replacement of Valve Cover (and Gasket)

Hello Forum Mates,

Now at 168,000. During a routine oil change, my go-to mechanic spotted an oil leak and determined that the valve cover itself was warping. So, the valve cover (plus the gasket/seal) was replaced. This is the first time I've had to replace/address the valve cover. Cost for parts and his labor (plus tax and such) was under $900. BTW, I asked the dealership for a quote (and their hourly labor charge in the DC area is about $170 per hour) and that estimate was closer to $1500.

Braman BMW in WPB a while back (12-18 months ago) received a 2017 330i b48 with 274K miles on trade and they were selling it on their lot. That’s INSANE in itself. I hardly drive my f36, been about two years since I got it at 57k miles and now only have 199k miles. 75k miles/year is nothing

Good job. I too had a 320i for about 6 months and it was a fun car. How many miles now?

172,000 - Tensioner, Accessory Belt and Idler Pulley Replacement

Now at 172,000.

I heard a squealing noise in the engine bay and realized that it was the Tensioner, Accessory Belt and Idler Pulley Replacement issue. This is the first time that I've had this issue arise. The car has overall been been solid.

Good DIY video here if you are a DIY'er (I took mine to my go-to mechanic).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Wa3oRA65Gw

Good explanation on on what this issue is here (and why it requires immediate attention):
http://www.autoblog.com/2016/01/07/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-drive-belt-tensioner/

Even though I have 3 contributions on this page alone, I still feel that she's still going strong (unless more contributions to this thread pops up on the next page). Fingers crossed!

How in the world is this "high mileage" issues? You have low miles, dude.

2013 335xi with 87,500 miles. Automatic.

Purchased new. I'm just now starting to feel the brakes getting a bit weaker along with a bit more squeaking. Oil changes have been done every 4k.

I've never had any major issues with this car, although I realize she's still young.

Issues:

-15k miles: annoying rattling sound coming from the front cowl area even at low speeds. Dealer took a day and pulled everything apart and finally found something - can't remember what it was. (warranty fix)

-20k miles: driver door handle wouldn't double-pull to open or unlock door (warranty fix)

-30k miles: all door jambs starting making awful freaking noises whenever the body would slightly flex. Was crazy annoying. (warranty fix)

Awesome car. I'm keeping her until the wheels fall off.

I thought I’d contribute to this post to add to the overall high mileage data contained within these pages.

I’ve just traded in my 2013 Estoril Blue F30 320d m-Sport with 103k on the clock for a G20

It’s been a fantastic car and has never let me down, with only a few minor issues along the way. I will miss it, but I figured this is probably a good time to use the value left in it towards something newer. Also the G20 is compliant with the newly extended Ultra Low Emissions Zone here in London so I’ll avoid the charges that would have come with keeping the F30 or taking a longer route home each day to avoid the zone.

Having previously owned an e90 and experienced its frightening lack of traction or braking in the snow in summer tyres (obvious, I know), when I bought the F30 I invested in a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks, fitted to some bog-standard BMW winter steel wheels. These tyres really bite into the snow which meant I was able to stay mobile day and night each winter. It meant my 19” summer tyres/wheels lasted longer too. On a side note, the 2020 Blizzaks I bought last year were much improved over the 2013 versions of the same type. They were much quieter and instead of getting less mpg than my summer set, I got another 40+ miles out of each tank over the summers. So it seams winter tyre technology has really come on over the last few years.

The Estoril blue paintwork has held up amazingly well for its age - it still looks great, apart from a few run-ins with the gritter truck on the lower-front bumper.

Issues experienced along the way:

50k (miles) - strange cracking in the plastic preset number buttons, just visible at night with the numbers backlit (sorted under extended warranty)

60k - sport seat side bolsters failed to inflate (sorted under extended warranty)

90k - wheel refurbishment. The metal elements in the mainly plastic centre caps seemed to have started to corrode quite some time before 90k (on the staggered 403M alloys). They expanded and this in turn broke the lacquer around the centre of the wheels and caused the diamond cut finish to start corroding on all four wheels from the centre. I’ve noticed that more recent alloy designs seem to keep any diamond cut finishes away from hard edges and outlined in a grey or black finish. Could be just coincidence.

95k - the drivers sport seat side bolsters failed to inflate again. Following a post online, it was a very easy job to replace the inflation unit (search ‘lumbar pump support’) in the back of the drivers seat. The seat back is also very easy to remove. The part was bought on eBay for £35, presumably from a scrapped vehicle. I only required one component from the kit that arrived. The plastic part that one of the air pipes attached to on the pump, just by a simple push fit, had snapped. The pump and airbags themselves were essentially fine but the pump was the part that had to be replaced just because of a broken little plastic lug on it.

At 103k there’s the odd creak and rattle from trim here and there and it’s perhaps slightly more clunkier over speed humps than when I bought it with 6k on the clock (it was a dealership ex-demo) but when I asked for the linkage/bushes to be checked at the last service they said there weren’t any issues. I’m sensitive to annoying sounds in a car, so others may not notice these so much.

Very occasionally the car seemed to ‘groan’ slightly when lifting off the accelerator at 5-10mph (in a car park for example), but never at any other speed. Might have been something just vibrating a bit somewhere, but I’m no mechanic. May have happened once every few weeks maybe.

I’ve paid a fortune in BMW extended warranty over the years with my F30 and having had both the e90 and F30 with very few issues and certainly nothing particularly expensive needing work (before I parted company with both around the 100k milage mark) this might be something I pass on next time around.
