Drive shafts

Does anyone know if all front o/s drive shafts are the same as I've had 2 separate mechanics tell me they are yet I've read that petrol are hollow and diesel are solid if so are the solid diesel ones the same on all cars I.e are 420d and a 435d using the same shafts?

When you find the part click on the part number to go to the next page, it tells every year and model that it was used in.
