Exterior Door Projector Aftermarket

Hey guys. Have a 430 GC. I was wondering is there a way to retrofit the door projector on the car? The one with the BMW logo when you unlock the car? And is it an easy install? Don't know why but i think its kind of cool and was hoping to put it on my car. Thanks

You would have to compare the BMW part number for the puddle lamps on your car with those for the listed models.

Are you talking the door handle lights or the ones in the base of the door?

I have the OEM in the base of the door, 5 minute job to change them over.

I second that, you wouldnt need a pry tool, just use one of your keys to lift the puddle light, pull it outta the hole and change it (with or w/o new adapter cables) to aftermarket lights. No big deal.

The knockoff ones will mess with your comfort access. Go with oem.

Seconded. Not sure why, but I was having tons of random problems once I put them on, and they all went away when I took them off.

Read over this thread for others with the same issue: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1396657

I must be lucky I have not had any problems since I put these lights in my 335. When my daughter and sister saw them they wanted a set for their cars. I put a set in a 650I and X3 and so far they have had not problems. I would say the lights have been in for 2 - 3 years.

Nonsens, had comfort access and never a single disturbance with them.

+1. The only time they pass any current is when the door is open, otherwise electrically speaking they might as well not be there at all. Even when the door is open they're just lights, LED at that, which do not create EMI/RFI that could conceivably interfere with CA.

I would tend to agree with you, and certainly did up until I experienced the issue myself. I'm sure the aftermarket ones come from different manufacturers, so perhaps one of them is using some really low quality parts that aren't shielded and causing RF interference on the key.

All I can say for 100% certainty is that I never had a "key not detected" issue before installing them, and haven't had once since removing them.

I guess that's not impossible. Most are all plastic, the ones I linked to are aluminum, but the originals were all plastic as well. Still, for them to throw off EMI/RFI they'd have to be powered up, which only happens with the door open.

The OEM are $101 on Amazon.... I bought 2 sets. Getbmwparts are $122. Each to their own on price versus quality. I?m sure OEM are overpriced but I?m more comfortable with that.

Not trying to be facetious, but is this actually 100% verified? Perhaps they always have some level of current but not enough to light up?

I had cheap projectors from ebay and it was for sure messing up with my comfort access and signal from key fob when trying to start the car. I changed the key fob battery thinking it was that as well. Finally I ran into a thread here about them aftermarket projectors and took them off asap. Problems went away instantly. I have now OEM ones and not a single problem.

Same exact process I went through.

They are already the other way, that was when I first installed to test. Sent it to my brother who was looking at doing it on his Audi
