OTA updates

My car is meant to receive OTA updates and I used to be able to check for map updates using this process, but when I navigate to the update section on the iDrive it says that there is no USB in place & doesn't give me an option for OTA updates.

I only checked this morning because the sat nav couldn't locate the BMW Mini factory in Cowley using their post code - the factory ahs been there for over 10 years. I have a suspicion that my previous problems with the iDrive shutting down in hot weather has resulted in the whole system defaulting back to factory settings.

Also the Office feature used to show my calendar entries but no longer does.

I'm not sure whether this due to my phone's recent update to Android 8 or issues with the iDrive.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

OTA doesn't work anymore for some reason, just do the USB update instead.

I am based in the US. According to iDrive, the last version of OTA map is 2017-2.

Very interested in other forum members' feedback. What's your OTA map version?

I've not had OTA for ages. I never wait though and just download. So I assume that would cancel out OTA?

Have the OTA updates been paused or is there some issue? Given it was an advertised benefit they can't just stop it without implications.

Who knows mate, there’s obviously some issue, every loan car and demonstrator I’ve had with idrive 5 or 6 have all still had old map versions so it’s not working on idrive 4, 5 or 6!

I was stuck on 2017-4 r1 and gave up waiting and installed 2018-2 manually but RTTI is crap now compared to what it was. Loads of roads missing.

We’re still stuck on 2017-3, ever since we got the car- maybe I won’t bother with the USB update then!!

Strange it’s been the complete opposite for me, loads of extra roads with RTTI coverage since the last couple of updates!

Just downloaded 2018-2 and a 32GB stick wasn't big enough! Used 64GB and all ok.

Supposed to be up to 4 a year. In reality it's two if you're lucky. Hasn't been 1 this year I don't think.

No, as discussed above the OTA updates aren't working anymore, just do them by USB.

I've got 2018-1 on my M4 and downloaded 2018-2 today.

Extracted it to the USB stick etc

How the hell do you update the maps? I can't find an option to update anywhere in the idrive.

Help!
