F31 335d Hybrid Turbo Build

Evening guys,

I am currently in the process of having a pair of custom made hybrid turbos built for my 335d.

They have been stripped and I have decided on the following specs:

Small turbo:
Billet compressor wheel (non cut blades)
360 degree thrust bearing

Not increasing compressor size as I don't want to ruin spool

Large Turbo:

Bored out to 80mm
Custom billet 80mm compressor wheel ( standard is 72mm) with 8 degree blade cut backs

360 degree thrust bearing conversion

Rated to 3 bar (standard 2.1/2 bar)

Also having manifold ported to match turbos etc too

Anyone give me an approximate cost for drive in drive out swap? It's a spare set I've sent away.

Also is it worth replacing the oil lines etc? No issues with the ones currently fittedi

I think you'll struggle to find many folks with that experience, maybe someone can advise what the 'book' job is at a dealer to perform a turbo + manifold swap on the 335d.

Access is often key here, it may only take an hour to physically swap it but 2-3hrs each side to get to it. I'm really not sure, just going from experience of turbo swaps on various other cars on my driveway!

Should be no issues using the lines unless there's damage to the faces of the banjo connections, but I would expect them to be fine.

It'll be interesting to see how this works out, any ratings on lb/s for that compressor wheel to give an idea of power increase? Is this a proven hybrid? I would be slightly concerned if it spools much later the cut-over might have a bit of a flat spot, but I'm sure good mapping could smooth it out.

Cheers yeah I'm not sure I've seen another newer 335d that's fo down the hybrid route should be interesting to see how it does.

I'm going to see what the max I can do with the DPF / CAT in place and I may look at whipping them off in the future if it's holding the car back that much, we shall see!

I've been quite around £800 drive in drive out this far.

Oem. Rubber. Braided are reinforced with stainless steel. So they are better at coping with higher pressure and heat.

Interesting upgrade.

What prompted you to go for this upgrade?

As for costs, I would imagine the plumbing, oil, water, air, exhaust is more complex on a twin turbo, so could take a good half a day. Expensive at BMW rates.

Just want to see what can be done, I know 400bhp is possible with intercooler and map, but may as well try something different - someone's got to lol

I'm now well over 100k miles on my 335d so if the turbos went then I might be tempted to do something interesting with them if I was having to replace them anyway.

I'd want to keep the dpf and any other emissions equipment intact, so what are you hoping to get power wise going down this route?

The other issues is the gearbox and what many miles of high torque outputs does to it. I remapped mine 90k miles ago!

If I can get 420 odd I'd be very pleased, I think without the DPF etc 450 wouldn't be out of the realms of possibility. The turbos are capable of 3.5 bar, a mapped car maxxes at 2.1 to 2.2 bar so an extra 30% boost should have a considerable impact.

How long theDPF will last with the hybrids fitted and mapped I don't know, only one way to find out lol

Main thing is the torque, it will produce figures off the scale but the map will have to be torque limited to protect the box. I'm going to ask for 850nm peak but it will do a lot more. Main thing is the torque will not tail off, it will stay to the redline
