N20 328i Weird noise from engine

Recently my engine having this weird "tuk tuk" sound. U can refer to below video link of how its sound.

Its actually doesn't appear at cold start. After engine warmed at idle for few minutes then d sound started and maintained.

Tried revving d engine but d sound doesn't get faster as d engine speed increased. Same goes when driving around, d sound just mantained at similar pace so its not related to engine speed.

Any of u guys encountered similar problem before? What part(s) faulty here?

Help me pls as this sound really drive me nuts.

Here d video of d sound;

Try to use automotive stethoscope. It will take time.

Sounds like you have a midget in there tapping away at something or clapping for a standing ovation! haha.

But on the real note, you can take a long pry bar or a screw driver and place your ear on the end while you poke around till you hear the same noise coming the area. Try to see if the noise is stronger from the bottom of the engine or top and see if its from the left side or right side of the engine. That should leave you with a small area to poke around in and hopefully find it.

Does it increase in frequency if you rev the engine?

Try placing your finger on the wastegate area (when the engines cold) to see if can feel the tapping sound.

I'm thinking a solenoid click and you have electrical version of the waste gate.

Yes mine is electrical version (solenoid/actuator) of wastegate.

I tried to locate d sound and I do feel d sound came from wastegate solenoid as well (not 100% sure tho). Does it possible for d solenoid to behave such way? I mean if d solenoid is knocking, does it make sense that its not related to engine rpm/speed? And i also just cant relate why d knocking started only when d engine is warm.

As I suspected d wastegate solenoid/actuator that causing d knock, I removed d electrical connection/socket on that solenoid/actuator, but d sound still there. Does this sufficient to rule out that d solenoid/actuator was not d culprit?

That sound would def not be the solenoid. And by removing power to the solenoid confirms that it was not it. I think a mechanic other than dealer will need to take a look for this sound as it is not normal. If dealer wont be able to find it than you have some stupid mechanics at the dealership or they are not wanting to share what is really wrong with the car. I would go to a local mechanic pay the inspection fee and they should find out for you real quick!

If it is something major, and you are still in warranty, than being it back to stealership with the inspection note from the private garage and have them fix the issue if it is covered and refund you the inspection fee since they could not find it/ were incompetent!

Update:

After further inspection, it is confirmed that d sound came from blow off valve. It stop making d sound after removing the wire connection to it.

Bad news is, changing new blow off valve does not solve it. So it was something else causing d blow off valve to made d sound. D diaphragm of d blow off valve continuously thumping/opening as how d sound goes. Correct me if i'm wrong, does this means my intake air pressure is having an issue (on high side?) that causing my blow off valve keeps activated? But i still cant figure out d logic sense of how it could lead to that.

Checked my turbocharger looks good no leaks and d shaft sit tight.

Mine is out of warranty so i hv to solve this on my own cost. With d crap quality of mechanics available around me, i have to somehow try to understand and narrow down d issue myself. *sigh*

Any update? I’m having the same exact issue. Noise goes away when BOV/DV is disconnected. Sounds like the diaphragm is continuously popping. I’ve put in a new BOV, a used turbo, and a used actuator. Both used parts were swapped off a working car without issue.

Resistors don't make sounds.
