Tracked my 435ix with Bootmod3! - Posted Alignment Specs.

Track: Waterford Hills, Michigan
Tires: Bridgestone Potenza Pole Positions S-04
KW V1 suspension, FBO's, Bm3 stg 2.

Finally got my 435ix with Bootmod3 and FBO's on a track. The track was in Waterford Hills in Michigan. It is a very technical track with tight turns, and short straights. I managed to hit 105 on the back straight which hung with the best of the cars there.

After tracking this car, I am hooked! I feel like ordering track brake pads and tires. The car did very well. The one mistake i made was not lowering my tire pressures. By the beginning of the 3rd run, the car felt like it was skipping on every turn. After i dropped the PSI by 7 on each corner, it felt like a new car. I had so much power on tap, it was too much (this is a good thing). I feel like I could get better tires and brake pads though.

Who else on here tracks their 35i? What types of pads and tires have you ran that perform well?

Right on! I'm hoping to do my first track session this summer. We have similar mods only problem is my tires are holding me back. As soon as I upgrade those I'm looking forward to seeing what this thing can do.

Glad you had fun and good to hear the car held up well with the bm3

If you plan on tracking your 435 frequently, don't forget to swap out your stock brake fluid for some high temp stuff if you haven't already. I've been using Motul RBF600 with awesome results in my last few BMWs.

Went out for another event this past weekend:

Track: M1 Concourse, Michigan
Tires: Bridgestone Potenza Pole Positions S-04,
Mods: KW V1 suspension, FBO's, Bm3 stg 2,
Improvements: Added Motul 600 fluid & Powerstop Track Day pads

It rained 75% of the day. The conditions were extremely difficult but since I have AWD and tires that aren't super aggressive, I was an all star for alot of my runs. I was passing cars that I normally wouldn't have a chance against. I did go off track once, which was not fun. The car was covered in mud for the rest of the day.

The brakes feel extremely strong. I have alot of confidence stopping now, however, the dust is pretty bad. I am still not sure I am keeping them for daily driving because of how loud the squealing can be.

How did the V1s hope up with all the extra gforce? Scrape or bottom out at all?

They did fine. No scrapping or bottoming out. I feel like I could add the front lip and still be ok. Maybe I am not realizing just how far down that would be. It think the front lip would look killer on my setup.

Cool stuff. Stiff enough for the track and street. I've only heard that they are on the softer side.

Do you happen to know how much you dropped over stock height? Noticed you are xdrive as well.

Alot lol. Not sure on the exact amount but you can easily make the car flush on all corners. If you wanted to be conservative you can be as well, although the rear will be 2 fingers MAX at the highest setting.

2 finger gap might be on the high side for me. I dont like tucking the tires at all tough, and I live in New England so peace of mind is much more important. My last lowered car (03 Audi A4) was 25" from the center of the wheel arch to the ground after dropping, and that's as low as I would go in this car as well. I'd say it was about a one finger gap with some extra in the front, because I valued my oil pan lol

Looks like you already did the brake fluid and pads. Since you're new I would just keep it like that until it's time to replace tires. Then that will be your next upgrade.

RBF600 is an excellent choice.

This is good to know! I've got a track day coming up but will probably run the Stg 1 bm3 map to keep it slightly conservative. I'm sure it will be plenty of power even at stg 1.

I ran stock turbo on 93 ots with both AS3+ and Indy 500s with powerstop evo pads.

AS3+ gripped great but after 3 laps it started losing a bit of grip, Indy 500s great grip but after the 5th lap it was wearing fairly quickly.

I upgraded to stoptech sport pads/rotors/lines and bought the PS4S. Also got rid of my staggered 19s setup (235/35/19, 275/30/19) for 245/40/18 square. Way less understeer.

Will report back in 2 weeks after I hit the track.

Should be fun with a brand new setup with PS2

I made it out to Waterford Hills again. I feel like I live and die by my tire pressures. If they get too hot or high, I feel like the car is skipping through turns. If I set the pressures low enough, everything is alot smoother. However, I must say with AWD, I really plow corners.

I also feel like I am fighting the car alot in corners (plowing though, and exiting smoothly). My only solution is to start utilizing Sport+. In Sport, I feel like TC kicks in and I can't put down power to come out of a hard turn. I tried a lap or 2 on Sport+ and this problem went away. I just hope I don't lose control more when running it like that.

I am wondering if track spec tires would help me at all. However, wouldn't having AWD allow me to get the traction I need? If they give me more lateral grip, than I would maybe buy a set.

Stay tuned for more!

Not sure tbh. I did see my temp gauge go past halfway during my 3rd run; something I only see on track. I have the large ER IC, so there probably isnt much more I can do other than run e85 or WMI.

Sport+ won't let you go crazy out of control. The nannies are still on, just reduced. You can slide a bit with it though.

What are your alignment specs? Alignment can definitely affect understeer and car rotation.

AWD only helps if the tires have traction.

You'll be fine with sport+, you still have DSC to save your ass in case something happens. I used sport+ during my track session and my DSC light was flicking on and off in certain corners as I was probably spinning through certain corners lol

Run square setup (245/40/18) and it reduces understeer by alot. I'm running 18x9 ET30.

I actually have a video of certain parts of the session recorded from the cell of my buddy.

+1 on going 245 square. Did the same thing to my RWD car and it helped tremendously with understeer. On the stock setup, I had to trail brake on practically every turn to keep the front end stuck immediately following turn-in so I could hit the apex and get back on the gas without push. Developing skills on the car unaltered is great, but in stock form (especially with RFTs) the understeer was too much to run off-line with confidence, I assume even moreso with xDrive. With the almost non-existant camber, the RFT shoulders do not last long when they're skating through turns.

I just did my first track day in my stock 340 xDrive. I love it.. SO much fun. I do have the question about tire pressure: Should I drop pressure like you did around 7lbs.? There were times it also felt like my car was skipping on turns.

On even a mild day I would be dropping my pressures a bit. If it's raining or wet, I'm moving them up a bit. The specific tire pressure can vary setup to setup and driver to driver, so experimenting and finding what you like is a good use of your time. Get yourself a nice tire guage. I generally shoot for 36-38 PSI hot (PS4S) which has me setting them between 28 and 30 psi cold. Depending on the number of right or left turns on the track you may have more cold pressure in one tire vs another. Welcome to the addicting world of HPDE.

For anyone running on RFTs, be careful shedding too much pressure because your sidewall wear can increase dramatically.

I just did my first track day in my stock 340 xDrive. I love it.. SO much fun. I do have the question about tire pressure: Should I drop pressure like you did around 7lbs.? There were times it also felt like my car was skipping on turns.
On even a mild day I would be dropping my pressures a bit. If it's raining or wet, I'm moving them up a bit. The specific tire pressure can vary setup to setup and driver to driver, so experimenting and finding what you like is a good use of your time.

Thanks for responding! I came in with temps at 78F at a pressure of 38. My front tires showed a tiny bit of sidewall wear after the event. They are RFT's of course.

Is it still worth decreasing pressure? I plan to only track my stock car maybe 3 times a year. (This May change as I get more addicted)

And of course the guy in the Mustang ran off track 3 times. Lol
