Hi,

Strange problem -

Just had a minor bodywork repair. When I got the car back the dash wasn't working (Speedo, Rev Counter, fuel gauge etc).

Couple of hours later got the call fixed and good to go.

Collected and dash was back. Clock has been reset (assume battery disconnected) and was showing 03:?? (has been around 3 hours since I got called that it was good to go).

I reset time via the iDrive and it went to correct time (17:30) but when I got home ten mins later still showing 17:30 - time not moving.

I can update via the iDrive (either the BMW auto set option or manually) and it'll go to correct time but just stays there.

I've tried the reset by holding in the power on the radio and the other key that resets the iDrive - nothing.

Tried a software update - no difference.

So prior to setting the time the clock was running.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Resolved.

Disconnected negative battery terminal for a minute or so.

After reconnecting switch on ignition only (when the battery had been disconnected during repair I assume the engine had been started. It's an automatic and they must have jumped in, foot on the brake and started the car).

Set the time through the idrive. Deselect then auto set option and set time manually.

Follow any other ignition prompts.

Start car.

Clock back to normal.

After the car is running the bmw auto time option can be selected.

Shocked the two bmw "geniuses" I spoke to in dealerships didn't know this but were happy for me to book in for a £100 diagnostic.

I love a happy ending! I've been less than impressed by the genii at our local dealer & make my wife deal with them. Her car, her issues!

I was going to reply battery. If any electronics are acting funny in these cars it's almost always battery related.

More the restart procedure to be followed after battery disconnected.

The battery itself was fine.

But I get where you're coming from - if something electrical isn't working the good old switch it off and back on again, sometimes does the trick!
