Michelin PS4’s on OEM 704 19”, Size Question

I think I know the answer to this...but want to do a sanity check.

I have a 2019 440i GC.

Looking to ditch the runflats for Michelin PS4’s. Any rub issues with moving up a size to 235/40 front and 265/35 rear?

Thanks.

265/35/19 is too wide for the 19x8.5" rear 704m.

i recommend 245/35/19 front, 255/35/19 rear

here's a 335i with 442m with oem 225/255 runflats before and 245/35, 255/35 mps4s after.

Thanks! I had just figured out that 265/35 was too wide for the 8.5” rear.

No rubbing issues going that wide in the front? What about 235/40?

no rub. max width on 19x8. slightly oversize but barely noticeable. wider and slightly shorter(dia.) fronts will improve handling by reducing understeer while maintaining turn in sharpness. although 245/35 is slightly shorter than 225/40, the outer shoulder is more flush with the fenderwell so the wheel gap is basically the same as 225/40.

if you do 235/40(26.4"), 255/35(26") the front is 0.4" taller than the back which gives you a reverse diameter stagger and slight reverse rake, although it might not be that noticeable. idk, maybe you can give it a try and show us the results?

265/35 in the back would be fine. It will bulge a bit but lots of guys that do autocross run wide tires. Plus it will solve the reverse rake problem.

Good point. Sounds like 245/35 255/35 for the win!

I had this setup installed and not surprisingly early impressions are completely positive. Turn in precision seems a bit less that the RFT’s but tough to tell since the tires are so new. Much quieter - less tire roar over broken pavement. Grip excellent.

For those that have this setup,- what pressures are you running? Tire shop set up at 35 front, 38 rear. Something tells me the front need a few more psi.

Turn in is best when the treadwidth is narrower than rim width.

Wider front tires increases front grip and reduces understeer

Turn in sharpness is better with the 225 runflat because the treadwidth is the same as the rim width(8") and the runflat sidewall is much stiffer than the mps4s. 245 treadwidth is 0.5" greater than 225. If you had gotten 225 mps4s, it would have better turn in than 245, however the benefit of increased front grip and reduced understeer that the 245 affords outweigh the sharper turn in, imo.

(if the front wheel was 8.5 or 9" the 245 would have better turn in than on 8")

You can try 37-38 psi up front, it'll stiffen the tire a bit more and should improve turn in.

Have close top the same setup, and i go about 3 to 5 lbs more than what it says on the door. For me, it comes down to 'tuning' the suspension a bit using tire pressures. Due to softer sidewall of the Mich PS4S, that means a bit higher than what is says on the door panel.

JMHO YMMV

Thanks. I increased rears to 39psi and fronts to 37psi, put about 100 miles on yesterday on a variety of roads. Rears seem right, I may increase the fronts another pound or two to experiment already much improved.
