ISTA+ sanity check
Hi everyone,
so, i have Esys in one Vmware image on Mac, works like charm. Coded many stuff, belts, start/stop, flash lights, bla bla. Being 10+ years in IT, but not that expert in Bimmer coding, was almost one click stuff.. (ENET cable, F36) then wished to setup Ista+.. so after trying 3 Winz versions, at least 5 online circulating Ista+ versions and their PSD datasets, and even trying to manually validate sqlite DB's, also trying ExFAT, NTFS, any disk formats, can anyone confirm me that there is some valid version that does not throws errors in log just after starting: (I can't believe it is because of Virtual machine..) Quote:
yes, yes, VCRedist are installed, .NET framework also, tried online/offline mode, not sure what i haven't tried available online.. full log attached. Thank you a lot. Last edited by waza040421; 05-03-2024 at 08:28 AM.. |

probably be helpful what version(s) you have tried as you list everything but this info as most newer versions are deltas and not full versions.
4.39 is a standalone that has everything and a one click option installer. you must run the reg fix after installing 4.39 that is included in the download so the registry gets set correctly. |

Thank you for the response!
I have tried: all mighty (ISTA_Standalone_4.39.20), 4.32.1, 4.45.20. Even tried installing 4.39.2 then manually replacing damn SQLite files from 4.45 with manual registry editing. (each install takes 2-4hours in VM, macbook air on USB disk, it's not that i'm missing some files) Each version tried with reg fixes, and without. And result is exactly the same. ISTA starts perfectly, sees car in Connection window, even manages to find some basic info when querying only by VIN, but when trying to run ECU diagnostic, errors from screenshots and that DB error in log. don’t mix/match the sqdblites files. they must be the same version as the version of ista installed.
4.45.20 is not any standalone as that requires a license - so not sure what you were trying with this one. 4.39.20 is what i use. is the tcp/ip set to 169.254.1.1? |

I do still think root cause of issue is these errors, does anyone have them in logs and manage to do vehicle test? Code:
Error in Database data! |

are you using the sqdblite files from ista 4.39?
if i was you, i would remove ista - delete the folder - clear registry (bmwgroup) & install 4.39 using the default settings then run the regfix afterwards to set the registry correctly. seems to me like you have jacked up ista entirely and best to start from scratch as there was someone who posted recently they had same issue (non vm) and it was because they did not have the registry set correctly. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1809461 |

This use if not for programming - ISTA_Standalone_4.39.20 Find -> files_only_for_manual_install -> regfiles_diagnose_only_with_blp -> ISTA_Reg_Fix_x64 For programming with SDP - ISTA_Standalone_4.39.20 Find -> files_only_for_manual_install -> regfiles_full_sdp_blp -> ISTA_Reg_Fix_x64 |

Just got from parking, so after fresh install from yesterday. VC x64, X68, .Net > 4.8, ISTA_firewall_rules, ISTA_Reg_Fix_min_x64, AppCheckDisable_to_use_different_DBs, regfiles_diagnose_only_with_blp -> ISTA_Reg_Fix_x64. all done
result: the same when entering VIN in Ista without car connection (to confirm something works). Other screenshots are sttrugle with trying to diagnose via ENET.. This is 10th reinstall, on multiple windows versions so i have no idea now each install is courupt.. |

get a different install of ista. either the copy you have is jacked up or you are simply not installing correctly as ista should have ZERO errors.
When it tells you to reinstall, then the install is corrupt and find yourself a different version. |

No so far.
I will try doing few installs on Win machine with proper hardware spec soon. All my attempts were on MacAir, 4GB ram with registry tweaked "Skip hardware requirements" so I'm assuming that might be reason Ista reports DB corruption in logs in startup. |

What a headache.. In my experience using Vwar or Wine to do Pc stuff on a mac never really fully works.. theres always a few things that wont work correctly or displays different.
I just picked up a cheap asus off ebay for under 200$ and use that laptop when i need to use ESYS or in the future ISTA.. Esys runs perfect on it although I havent put ista on it yet I already know its going to be a few hours of downloading and installing and apparantly a Sanity check...

Check the edibas.ini file ensure you have interface=remote. Remove any obd.ini file in the edibas directory.
Then check the settings in ISTA (the wrench icon at the top) enet direct connection. The IP addresses there look right. I once had a Windows install go bad on me, the "wmi database" got corrupted during an update or something and it actually broke ISTA. Much like the error messages you're seeing. There's a way to check if the wmi database is good. |
