Click skyline sedan or coupe, it says "photo: 350gt" beside the sedan and "photo: 370gt" beside the coupe.
no, i want it to be a discussion on the car itself, whether it's negative or positive. i dont want it to be "g35=skyline in japan". that obviously doesnt add value or any knowledge about the new GT-R, does it?

I don't know about that, remember this is a car that has AWD launch and likely can launch at near redline like the old R34GTR. I believe the Nismo R34 GTR z-tune had better performance and was rated only at 400 crank torque and weighed in at 3580lbs. Nismo GTR had 500hp rating and ran 10.X 1/4, this one runs 11.4 with about 30 less hp. Sounds plausable to me. Pretty crazy performance from a heavy box looking thing. I think Nissan has its reputation on the line here and would not over estimate the performance.

I'd rather have a Z06, at least they manage to look good while going fast.

Let's take bets on the stealership selling prices.

I say the MSRP will be $72-74k base and probably just shy of $80 optioned up.

Stealerships will be putting $25-30k premiums on them.

I bet you won't be able to touch one for under $100k for the first year.
Then under $90K for the second Model Year (2010).

Well unless of course you are Jay Leno or someone, who Nissan is probably giving one too for the publicity alone.

With a brand new car like this, with a brand new engine, drivetrain, and everything, it's the 2010 MY you want anyway for the inevitable upgrades and little fixes it will have.

Fast car for sure.
It looks a bit ackward though, especially the front end from the A-pillar forward, where it looks like it has a drooping face or like the front end is broken and falling forward at a weird angle.
Love the back end, the view most will see anyway.
Interior also looks VERY low rent and generic.
I think they could of made the interior flow a bit better.

Its most likely faster then those #s ... Nissan has a history of under quoting power and performance just like BMW.

and I cant believe everyone is arguing over the Skyline thing ...

There is a Skyline which is a mid size car line up by nissan similar to that of BMW's 3 series. When the R32 / R33 / R34 where in production there was a base Skyline (similar to a 328i) then a Skyline GT-S (RWD only & T/C ... like a 335i) and a Skyline GT-R (AWD and T/C like the M3 model of the line up). After the R34 the new Skyline line up (GT350) never had a GT-R Model ...This Skyline GT350 was brought over to the states and sold under the Infiniti Badge as the G35 ... now with the new updated Skyline there are two models the GT350 and GT370 aka G35 and G37. Nissan decided to break the GT-R model off from the Skyline name sake and turn it into its own model (most likely a marketing gimic so they can charge more $ for the car).

The day I ever pay even NEAR $100k for a friggen Nissan is the day someone needs to blow my head off. As someone mentioned earlier, the Z06 is the obvious choice. I can spend way less than this Nissan and dump the rest of money into the Z06 making it even faster. Both interiors are crap anyway.

Hate to seem like a hater.

But ugly and expensive. I am sorry I'd rather have the corvette which weighs less and finally is looking good. Looks better than that crap.

Also I think overall, In american eyes it will be hard to dish out 75k for a Nissan.

Also many Americans will think the Skyline is oh so great like in Gran Turismo. I am not saying they are not great cars. But they are not the god of vehicles. And for that much I cant see it.

To be honest, you could get a regualar 2008 Corvette with the 6.2 liter engine for $50-55k.
With $5K in mods they are supposedly putting down 475+ rwhp (about 100 more than stock).

And I've never known Nissan/Infiniti to be conservative with the performance of their cars.
I've owned a couple Nissan's and Infiniti's and if anything they are usually pretty spot on.
BMW by far is the most conservative with their performance listings.

Anyway, it will be a collector car for sure, but like the Shelby GT500 you are going to pay big time for it in the first 2 years.

$100k for the GT-R?

Not likely.

$55-75k, very likely.

This car's main target is the Corvette, thus, it will be priced accordingly.

Come on, guys. Nissan..."Schmissan;" it's hard to argue against these performance numbers (if accurate): 3.5 sec. 0-60mph, 11.7 sec. 1/4 mi., 192mph top speed. This is serious supercar territory, and it's STOCK; faster than most if not all (haven't checked) Ferraris, Lambos, Porsche 997 Turbo, 'Vette Z06. I don't care if it's Nissan or not (and I've driven both Nissan and Infiniti in the past, and although the quality is sub-BMW, I enjoyed driving all of them! )...the '09 Nissan GT-R is a sports supercar to be reckoned with.

This car is a beast.

I can't wait to watch the videos of the GT-R going up against all the other supercars.

it's better than that, you can get a regular (auto, leather, Onstar, XM, AC, power, etc.) 08 Vette for $43K + TTL and for about $3-4K in mods (headers, cam, CAI, porting intake, tune) be putting down 506+ RWHP....the LS3's are putting out right at 400 RWHP stock

At 506 RWHP you're laying waste to Z06's in a Vette that was 20K+ cheaper....sounds alot like the modded 335 vs. M3 discussion doesn't it???

Good info. Its obvious that unless this Nissan is reasonably priced, options such as the Vette you listed above are far more desireable if you're looking for some serious power. I'm assuming just about anyone who can afford a $100k car wouldn't have a problem spending that little extra money on a 997 Turbo or something similar. If the GTR is really near the 6 figure mark it'll be a flop no doubt.

You could also make an E46 faster than the E92 M3, what's the point?

Damn, I love BMW, never thought about buying anything else except maybe Porsche, but now, wow, if those numbers are correct that GT-R is gonna rape ANYTHING BMW can make, especially at that price and I'm sure it will handle as well too.
