oil additive that stops small leak

I think my oil filter gasket has a small leak. Someone suggested an additive that helps "seal" the gaskets against small leaks. Please send to me.
Thanks.

Leak sealing additives aren’t a good idea...

Think about it, last thing you want to do with oil is obstruct flow. Especially with yours being modified. Those same additives that may or may not fix your oil leak could clog up vital pathways and starve your engine of oil. Particularly when cold, which is when most damage occurs.

A new oil filter gasket is $10 or less on RockAuto.

God yes please, do not add additives or sealants in a car.. they go everywhere they ruin everything it's just a bad idea fix the problem and run normal oil. But could never be as bad as ac sealant in the system trying to recover it lol

no easy way out.

Wanna lose weight? cut your diet and get your butt in the gym. Ain't no easy pill to fix your health. Otherwise we'd all look like hollywood movie stars

Wanna make more money? get your butt in gear and learn something marketable--a skilled trade, a degree in a desirable field like STEM. Ain't no get rich quick schemes that work, otherwise we'd all be rich.

Car has a leak? Replace the gasket or component that's leaking. Snake oils do nothing but take money out of your pocket.

Oil filter cannister gasket

Thanks guys. Agree no quick fix. I have seen some different estimates of hours to replace the OFCG. One of my indy guys says like 5-6 hours. He is excellent (did my Porsche 997 clutch job) but not a BMW specialist. Any suggestions for avoiding major hours?
Thanks.

I found the reply I needed

bmw calls for removing the whole intake manifold when in reality you would only need to take off all the bolts pull it out a little to reach to one on the back side other than that it's straight forward.

Great blog...

5-6 hours!! That's either crazy or highway robbery!! Took me 1.5 taking my time since it was the first time. It's not difficult and doesn't require any special tools. There are a number of DIYs out there.

no need to replace manifold gaskets I assume

If just loosening the bolts enough to drop the manifold a small amount, is there any need to replace the manifold gaskets themselves? Hence why BMW quotes high labor hours?

my go to BMW indy shop says drop manifold and do another oil gasket at same time

I think he said oil temp sensor as well as OFCG (but could have been oil for turbo ...sorry I forget now). Anyway, he says should do both these gaskets and $800 P/L so must be 5-6 hours. This guy is super honest and knowledgeable. Did my Dinan install. Comments?

Ya whenever you open anything up on a bmw there gonna replace the gasket just how they do things oRings everything you don't think about they'll get you for but if you trust the guy then that's not a bad price.

Anytime you open something that involves a gasket, you need to change it or you are just setting yourself up for a leak. O-rings are different, gaskets are single use.

"Fix" one side and brakes the other... Not really a good idea 💡
Oil viscosity is controlled and specified for your engine. Not sure what additive is that.

You mean the oil filter or the 'oil filter housing'?

The oil filter, when done by inexperienced, might just be leaking because the 0-ring wasn't placed properly in the cap--it needs to sit in a groove about a 1/2" beneath the flange.

OFHG...haven't had the pleasure yet on the b58, but good luck!
