TPMS system failure

I have a recurring problem where my 2015 328i is getting sudden TPMS failures showing all 4 tires losing connectivity to the system. I can reset them and get pressure readings back but often lose it again on the same drive or almost always on starting the car the next day.

Could this be an early indication of my battery going bad? It is the OEM from a 2014 build.

Anybody else experience this? It does seem to correlate with warmer weather as things were find this past winter.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom.

I'd say it's more likely to be the TPMS receiver module itself. It's a fairly cheap and easy fix if it is this and no coding is required.

If you were having just 1 or 2 dropping out then I'd be more inclined to suggest it's the batteries in the TPMS sensors but for all 4 to be going at the same time, it's more likely to be the module. It seems to be a fairly common problem.

Yeah sounds like it's the receiver, which is the problem I had.

It's a £70 plug-&-play replacement from BMW, so maybe €80/$100 ballpark.

The old one, if it's not on the outside of the fuel tank, will probably be under the parcel shelf or in the rear side trim in the boot.

A couple of hours of DIY, but it's not difficult, just a case of removing trim pieces which can take a bit of time.

I think it's 2 hours at most. I've seen it from underneath the car. Seems easily accessible.

Ah if it's on the fuel tank and accessible underneath the car then yeah it'll be 10 minutes maybe

So I had something similar happen where my batteries on the TPMS sensor started dying. It occurred during the transition from my winter tires/wheels to summer tires/wheels.

Initially, 2 TPMS sensors would not respond according to ISTA. I didn't know whether it was a TPMS wheel sensor problem or the receiver problem. Then I ran ISTA a few days later and a 3rd TPMS sensor would not respond. At that point, the odds were that the TPMS sensor batteries were on their last legs.

However, I did locate the TPMS receiver in the event that was the problem and I had to change it out.

Thanks to all for your input. Replacing the receiver is a bit less urgent than the main battery (but admittedly, that can't be expected to last much longer either).

Where is the receiver on the 2015 328i? It seems to move around from year to year, vert to hardtop, etc.
