Yeah, I was pretty surprised too. Long motorway journeys with cruise control are the only way I can get near these figures. Around town I'm lucky to make 28mpg.

Around town is still the killer to the 40i too, 28mpg that you are getting is pretty good.

Got 45mpg while running the car in, bettered that with 47mpg when traveling from Brighton to Ashford in Kent late on motorways one evening. 34-35mpg is average but I am fortunate in that I don't do much town driving.

44.1 MPG over 206 miles from Dorset to Ealing in London and back yesterday.

First longish trip and still running in but really chuffed with those figures. A few hold ups on the way and a bit of town driving, simply used comfort mode.

328i - spirted drive in Peak District - 22 mpg. Happy - get it driven.
