Yes, albeit you’re likely to need a few options that will bump up the price. The standard alloys are horrid (imho) so that means going for 19” and you’re likely going to want adaptive to take the edge off the ride (the old 7.5 can be a bit hard on 19s without it). You may well then want metallic. Those three, over a 3 year deal will add about £60 a month. As an alternative the Golf R is about £30 more than the base Clubsport but has standard alloys that I could live with and therefore might prove cheaper.

Similar price to a 128Ti. Looks good though, would be tempted myself at that price as fancy a change from BMW next car.

They look fine to me. As a whole the Clubsport model seems to add enough styling to compensate for the bland droopy look of the bog standard Mk8. Not spectacular, but not bad. If an M135i was available for a similar price, I would choose that though. Against a 128ti it would be a tough decision.

These are the standard Clubsport alloys. I'll let you make your own mind up but I wouldnt want them.

As said you can get a Golf R for not a lot more. However, again, not with these alloys:

When you put 12k in the miles and amortise the payments/deposit out it's £440 a month plus you'll want to change those wheels so nearer £500 than £400 which is a lot of money for a golf even one with 300hp.

Feeling a bit tempted by one of these! Wheels aren’t good as standard but that can be sorted easily enough.

You are out of date Ian lol. Polo went 18 months ago replaced by a Mini Countryman and the Macan was sold back in August. Replaced my wife’s Golf with the M135i which is staying. Having said that most of the miles have been in the Countryman carrying the dog or on salty winter roads.

Current thought is to sell the Mini, originally was thinking of a used Mk7.5 Golf GTi but it’s escalating via man maths to firstly a Mk 8 GTi and now on to a Clubsport as it’s not a lot more expensive and may hold value better as reckon it will be more desirable than the standard GTi. Two year lease deals might be the way to go as the costs seem a lot lower than other means of financing although like the extra flexibility of a PCP or loan

Then would probably get something like an oldish Polo as it’s great to have a not so perfect runaround but try not to use it too much. This would work ok as my daughter will be learning to drive in a year so it could do her and previously she was all for a Fiat 500 or maybe a Mini but I’m thinking i should capitalise on her keenness for something good like a Polo and get it bought.

What’s better than a hot hatch in the garage, two hot hatches lol. A nice combined just over 600 PS.

Sorry left out of that the consideration for full electric. Tried an ID.3 which was a decent drive but a bit low rent inside and lots of gremlins reported by owners. It’s a bit like a mid to base Golf feel and not like a GTi as I kinda like. The GTi is also likely to cost less than a mid range ID.3. Also tried a BMW I3S which i loved and does feel quite hot hatch but tiny range and limited space is an issue with family. The rear doors also are very odd although I’m sure they can get used to

So after all that I got to a Golf again and really like the look of the new GTi especially the Clubsport, and it’s got pops and bangs lol.

You will be glad your daughter is a daughter and not a son if my recollection of insurance costs for the youngsters are clear!

I loved my GTi PP but I dont think I would want two similar cars in the family, so I reckon I'd get the Polo for the daughter (and one I might be happy to drive) and get myself a proper weekend car as it seems that is what its used for....

I have a son as well lol, he is 2 years younger.

The proper weekend toy is a nice plan but one for the future when the kids have moved on and a practical 4 seater is not needed.

Its a small window before you then start needing practicality for the grandkids!

When my two were 18 and 17 I was paying £2600 a year to insure a Corsa.... fortunately for two years the Mrs shared with them so at least I saved one lot of insurance and only had one set of wheels and bumpers to get scraped....
