Lockdown boredom - Wrapping interior
So lockdown three is becoming a bit of a drag, dry Jan, on a diet, given up smoking & completed Netflix. Thank god I'm still working but still seem to have a lot of free time.
I'd been thinking of doing some interior upgrades for a while, including the carbon trim, but struggling to justify the price for the genuine stuff. So, for a £20 eBay punt I thought I'd give it a go myself and I have to say, I'm pretty pleased with the results so far. I think I'm confident enough to have a crack at the shifter next The colour of the carbon seems to look strange on the photos but it's a satin black kind of finish |

Thanks. First time I've tried. Started with a door handle and though "if I can do that then the rest should be easy" first try was a bit crap but nailed it on the second go. Used a heat gun and just took my time and didn't rush it

That looks like the same stuff I did my Impreza's interior in 6 or 7 years ago. If it is then it's pretty hard wearing stuff. Good looking job too, a lot better than my first attempt!

Yeah it seems decent quality to be fair. Easy to work with too. Hope it holds up

Nice! Looks like you've got the same type of carbon as I've gone with. Shifter looks great too. I'll have a go at that tomorrow and see how I get on but I can tell it's not going to be easy

Mine was the 3M Dinoc, I'll take a couple more pics tomorrow as I've since added an m performance top panel to the shifter. Looks a little more authentic now.
Did you remove the airbag to get at the steering wheel trim? I've got some spare and might have a go at this next. |

Don't want to hijack this guys thread too much but for getting the door handles off I used trim tools. The other bits come off relatively easy by prising with a flat blade, I'd wrap anything sharp with a cloth so as not to damage a thing though.

Not really but I did get some plastic trim tools to make sure I didn't scratch anything with a screwdriver. Door handles are the trickiest to remove. There's a small hole underneath which gives access to a metal clip, pop that with a screw driver and then you can pop the rest of the clips out fairly easily. The dash trims and centre part you can just pull off by hand, just need to be careful with the large dash piece as the lower strip is all part of it and so thin and delicate towards the passages window. Plenty of YouTube videos though to give you some tips on how to do it. I watched a couple to make sure I wasn't going to break anything

Cracked on and had a go with the shifter this evening. Didn't take long really and happy with the result. Not the clearest picture with the flash on
