Picked up a used '13 335i with only 12k on it this past weekend..

Wondering if the grindy crank up sound is normal? It sounds pretty rough when it starts up but it runs fine and never has a problem starting. Engine feels strong, pulls hard, etc. after it's running. It just sounds like it's grinding something when it's cranking up.

Second issue, and I already know you all will say "blow off valve" sound but it's definately not but when I lift my throttle between 1k and 3k rpms it makes this weird metallic high pitched sound .. This occurs actually when NO boost pressure is being made (light throttle).. The sound is not there when I lift with actual boost pressure.. and the high pitched sound sounds nothing like a blow off and it's delayed by at least 1 second after you lift throttle.. I can make it occur over and over and over just by lifting throttle, applying throttle, lifting throttle, etc.etc.etc. over and over.. it sounds like crap and it sounds like something isn't right..

However, the car runs just fine so I have no idea what it is..

Nope, not at all.. silky smooth. It's purely outside noise..

My brand new 328 sounds like crap on startup but with 12k on it I would take it in for warranty work on the other issue.

If it's a rattling/buzzing sound between 2-3k rpm, and happens only under throttle, there's an SIB out for it. There's a fairly recent thread on it floating around somewhere - I think a hose is vibrating and causing some sort of resonance in the dashboard.

Just had the SIB done myself last week and boy does it make a huge difference.

Your first issue I think is some exhaust gate that closes after the first 10 seconds of idle. Sometimes it does sound a little raspy.

The second issue I don't know what, but it sounds nothing like the hose fix from the SIB. That noise was only happening under acceleration.

I'll just take it in since i'm still under full factory warranty.. I can reproduce the issue over and over so at least they can't claim they don't know or don't hear it. The start up grinding sound doesn't happen all the time, just randomly or when the car has been sitting a while.
