Used car 35k miles needs new front disks and pads

Looking at a 335d 66 plate 2017 from a car supermarket type place. The car had a AA check and failed on front disks and pads (blue m sport)
The car place say they will replace with none genuine parts.
The think that has me concerned is that disks and pads at 35k doesn't seem right so could the car possibly have been clocked back?

My 2016 335D had brakes all round done at 44K.

My 66 340i says it needs brakes in 3k miles, current mileage 36k.

It all depends on how the previous driver uses the brakes

FWIW, if I recall correctly... BMW uses VERY soft brake pads. (Hence why every stock BMW wheels look like they've been throw a mud/dust bath.)

So those WILL wear out pretty quickly. My US Spec 435i had new pads at 48k.

I just did mine at 39k. There was a bit of material on the pads left for another couple months maybe but the rotors had a nice ridge and the stopping power / feel wasn't too good since about 35k. It was time to do it.

Not totally unusual. The Subaru I did the brakes at 25k and 50k and they were shot both times.

So nothing to be worried about then, guess the driver must have been driving it hard. I had 47k out of mine previously so was a little concerned

I'd swear BMW make their brake discs out of cheese or something. They do seem to wear out extraordinarily quickly.

My 2016 X1 needed new pads at 30k. My 2018 F30 has 32k and says they need to be looked at this fall. So I think you are good.

I did 36k with M Sport brakes on my 3 series before part exchanging it and there were loads on the pads and it certainly didn't need discs. Depends how you drive it I suppose.

You can have mine for vt cost if you want!

It’s about 22.5k i think f36 435d EB

Will need new pads at the front, but already has adaptive, ACS, black grills, painted diffuser, black exhaust tips and MPS4s

I have 3200 miles left on my front brakes but they are squeaking pretty bad.
£750.00 (Or there about) from BMW
£424.74 From Euro Car Parts
£307.71 From Autodoc

Will give a couple of local indie's a call in the next week or so for a price but there is no way I'm paying BMW to replace them!

My 340i has 34k miles on it and the current brakes have about 80-70% left in them. I only bought it with 32k on so must have been down before that sometime.

It's not unusual to need new pads at that mileage but BMW rotors wear slowly. I've measured 30k mile rotors with 80% of their wear material remaining. Truth is that without actual caliper measurements of pads and rotors, any anecdotal stories or any recommendations that are given are meaningless. Mechanics/ dealers recommend rotor and brake pad replacement all the time without any data proving that it's really needed.

335i blue M-Sport Brake 370mm rotors come 30mm thick and 345mm rear rotors come 24mm thick. Both have 1.6mm of wear material. See photo for wide mouth caliper for measuring. Probably cheap from AliExpress.

Don't let anyone put non-BMW parts on without you approving the brand & the part number. There's a lot of junk parts out there and "this is the brand that we always use" isn't good enough.

I'd trust Zimmermann rotors which are well made. Suggest Zimmermann front (370mm) drilled part# 150.2911.52 and Zimmermann rear (345mm) plain. Drilled provide better bite and shed water better for safety in the rain. Mercedes, Porsche, McLaren, etc. use drilled on their street cars for this reason.

US-made Hawk 5.0 pads are the best street pads that I've found. I've seen them on AmazonUK so perhaps other UK suppliers have them too. See photo for part numbers. I'm assuming your M-Sport blue brakes are Front370mm/Rear 345mm.

Hope this helps!

My 2016 440i had its first set of front pads changed at 39k, still on original rotors.

Original rear pads are worn 70% according to BMW when it had an oil service Dec '19 at 50k.

Thanks for all the responses, I don't have much choice on parts they use unfortunately but the car is priced well. The positive is that they are doing what needs to be done to get the car sorted according to the AA report
Going to see it mid week so hopefully I will be back in a bmw soon

I believe you I sold my 320d (ok an E90) with 105k on the clock and it still had original discs and pads all around.

How about a F36 instead? There's one in the classifieds - 435d - posted by Mattyk

I'd take a forum member car over a supermarket car if it's been well looked after - and most are.

Mine was the same, eventually in our yearly mot they were flagged as low so I changed them then, that was about 47k, idrive had been saying 3k since before 39k miles.
